STICKING with a winning format, the third renewal of the Cavan Elite Foal sale will take place during the show jumping championships next Thursday evening. This year’s catalogue has been narrowed down to 23 commercially-bred foals, all of which have been pre-selected prior to sale. As usual, the emphasis is on the pedigrees, and while imported bloodlines dominate the sire’s list, this year’s entry offers a much broader balance of dam’s lines.

Heading the numerical list of covering stallions is the popular Diamant de Semilly. The Selle Francais registered stallion has three lots forward, while sharing two apiece are Cornet Obolensky, Numero Uno and OBOS Quality. The highly commercial Balou du Rouet, Flexible, Kannan and Plot Blue are also represented, as are Tolan R and Sligo Candy Boy.

The catalogue itself has had another revamp this year, with each lot accompanied by a photograph and a full list of the achievements of the maternal families.
