THE Connemara Pony Sales returns from October 22nd to 26th with a five-day sale offering quality ponies, proven performers, young prospects and plenty of breeding stock at what is notably the biggest sale of foals at the venue.

Day one starts strongly with the very first lot, Little Buddy (Lot 1). The four-year-old bay by Aughnanure Leo is a maternal brother to Class 1 stallion Josie Jump, a three-time RDS Connemara Performance Hunter winner, Pony Discovery Champion at Millstreet and BSPS Scotland M&M Gold Cup winner.

Lot 114, Clounanna Lady Isla (by Doohulla Dunally), offers exciting possibilities as a ridden pony, performance prospect or future broodmare. The four-year-old mare is measured at 148cm with ShowJumping Ireland, she has enjoyed a successful season in ridden Connemara classes, accumulating numerous placings.

Another standout on day one is Beechmount Apollo (Lot 138), a proven four-year-old 155cm performance gelding by Clifden Champion Slackport Prince. He qualified for the prestigious Green Hunter competition at Clifden, finishing fifth in the final, and previously won the loose-jumping qualifier at the Midlands Show in Mullingar before placing sixth in the Clifden final as a three-year-old. Apollo has also proven his versatility in dressage, winning the Prelim category at Louisburgh Show.

Lot 258, Ballymakea Shadow Gamble (Shadow’s Dun), presented an exciting opportunity for buyers. Newly-approved Class 1, the three-year-old stallion achieved an impressive 93% for conformation and 91% for athleticism. Measuring 148cm, he has eight inches of bone and tested N/N for HWSD.

Among the other eye-catchers are Ballydoolagh Kim Shadow (Lot 263), Snip Bawn Buachaill (Lot 357), Bohola Blazing Pumkins (Lot 420) and Abbeyside Florida (Lot 462).

Breeding stock

A breeding mare that is an attractive prospect is Lot 548, Belmont Silver Lady (by Gurteen Dara). The quality nine-year-old mare is an own-sister to Class 1 stallion Belmont Mill Hill and is described as easy in every way. Scanned in foal to Mountain Cascade, she has already produced five foals.

Lot 606, Glenville Gasta is a well-produced bay filly foal by a son of Clifden Champion Dunloughan Troy out of a Silver Shadow mare. She has already made her mark in the show ring, winning Champion foal on her only outing.

Lot 627, Tabitha Archie, counts the HOYS and Olympia winner Slieve Bloom Gill as his maternal grandam.

One for the performance buyers, Lot 706 Riverwood Charisma, is by the Grand Prix-winning stallion Ushuaia Eliza Modesty and is a maternal half-brother to Class 1 stallion Riverwood Razmataz. His dam is by Robe Earl out of a Castleside JJ mare. A pedigree packed with performance influence makes this colt an exciting prospect for the future.
