THE sales action returns to Cavan next Thursday, where a one-day renewal offers a mixed catalogue of 131 lots. Opening with an attractive selection of 58 ponies (to include a premier category), the sale also offers some graded competition horses, as well as a collection of well-related mares and youngsters with potential.

Last year’s renewal was a lively affair, and connections will be hoping to emulate or better the overall clearance of 82%. The pony trade was especially strong 12 months ago, and once again the sector looks likely to achieve.

The list of covering sires is diverse, but leading the numerical selection is the Connemara pony sire Black Dandy.

A son of Tulira Barney, he has three progeny holding entries, while represented by two apiece is fellow Connemara sire Shadows Dun, and the sport horse stallions Hold Up Premier, Lancelot, Loughehoe Guy, OBOS Quality, Royale Concorde, Royal Touch and VDL Arkansas.
