OVER the past 20 years, the Limburg Foal Auction has built up an excellent reputation when it comes to first-class jumping foals. The auction, which is powered by Stal Hendrix, has published their newest collection and Paul Hendrix takes us through some of his favourites. All 77 future talents will be auctioned in three groups in an online auction on September 21st, 22nd and 23rd.

Due to all the coronavirus measures, the Limburg Foal Auction offers the foals in an online auction this year.

“That’s why we have selected extra strict on correctness and we are sure we can provide our clients with outstanding foals once again. Horses such as H&M Extra, Ermindo W, Cas II and Donna Speciale have developed into excellent ambassadors for the Limburg Foal Auction. We are certain that our 2020 collection also includes potential top showjumpers,” commented Paul Hendrix.

Performance damlines

Offspring of proven sport stallions such as Tokyo du Soleil, Catoki, Cornet Obolensky, Berlin, Dominator Z, Emerald van’t Ruytershof, Comme Il Faut, Casall, Tobago Z and Echo van’t Spieveld are part of this promising collection. Besides that, young and talented breeding stallions as Uricas van de Kattevennen, the Dutch champion of the five-year-old Kardinaal HX and Pegase van ‘t Ruytershof are represented.

In the pedigrees of the majority of the foals, solid performance damlines have been combined with proven sires and young talented stallions. Multiple foals have been bred from dams or granddams which have competed successfully in international classes and/or are closely related to Grand Prix showjumpers.

Ones to watch

Although Paul Hendrix has a lot of trust in all 77 foals up for auction, he is willing to pick some favourites - such as the special Berlin colt Pegasus, which was bred out of the Grand Prix show jumping mare Absie (Corland x Heartbreaker, ridden by Sarah Ballou). This mare has already foaled the international Grand Prix horses Narazo de Nyze S (s.Nelson Z) of Derin Demirsoy and Lucas Porter’s C Hunter (s.Cassini II). “This is a very promising colt with top class origins, definitely a foal to keep an eye on,” he said.

Another highlight is the Edinburgh colt Papillon Especiale. His dam Go On Especiale (Chacco-Blue x Indoctro) is a sibling of several 1.50/1.45m international show jumpers and she is a granddaughter of Eric van der Vleuten’s Grand Prix and World Cup-winning mare Especiale (s.Voltaire). From this excellent Limburg damline also originates the Uricas van de Kattevennen filly Passion Especiale.

“These two foals were bred by Jack Verstappen, who has built up a very successful damline with the Grand Prix mare Especiale. The Edinburgh foal is a very correct and powerful colt, while the filly stands out with her athletic conformation and light-footedness. The stallion Edinburgh is achieving great results on 1.50/1.55m level with Maikel van der Vleuten and Uricas van de Kattevennen is one of Belgian’s most promising eight-year-old stallions. Those stallions combined with the solid Especiale damline makes both foals very promising,” explains Hendrix.

Not much more to wish for

Another rising star is the striking Trinidad (Tobago Z x Casall), whose dam is a full sister of the Grand Prix show jumper Cinca 3 (s.Casall) with which Daniel Meech is on the longlist for the Olympics next year. Trinidad’s granddam was performing on international 1.50m level and is a half-sister of, among others, Nicola Philippaerts’s Grand Prix stallion H&M Chilli Willi (s.Casall).

“With such a pedigree, there is already not much more to wish for. In the third generation this superb foal carries the blood of Carthago and this damline has already produced many international horses, including Gerco Schröders top mount Glock’s Cognac Champblanc,” said Paul Hendrix.

Bred out of a three-quarters sister of the Olympic stallion Clinton, is the promising Catoki son Utoki of the Paddocks (ds.Corofino I). His dam has foaled several talented young show jumpers and his sire Catoki is a top progenitor with not so many offspring in recent years. This talented foal is another future prospect in the Limburg Foal Auction.

Echo van‘t Spieveld

A true powerhouse is the Echo van‘t Spieveld offspring P. Echo’s Boy D (ds.Libero H). “Every time, this colt impresses with his powerful canter and good conformation. Besides that, he has proven origins and he shows a lot of scope in everything he does,” said Hendrix.

The Grand Prix sport and breeding stallion Echo van‘t Spieveld also sired the striking Elliot Terma H (ds.Zirocco Blue VDL). This is another colt with outstanding conformation, a great canter and an excellent pedigree. “He was bred from the family of the international jumping stallion Brainpower, ridden by Willem Greve and Charlie Jacobs, and he can be an asset for both sport and stallion approvals.”

Bred out of the direct damline of Maikel van der Vleuten’s legendary Grand Prix stallion Verdi, is the Eldorado van de Zeshoek colt Phill (ds.Vleut). His granddam has already foaled an international 1.50m show jumper and is a sibling of the Olympic team medal winner Verdi (Holstein damline 474A). Also this colt can be an asset for sport and stallion approvals.

Tokyo du Soleil

Last but not least, it’s worth mentioning the two foals sired by the Grand Prix stallion Tokyo du Soleil. “Under the saddle of Luca Marziani, this Montender son has been very successful and his transfer to Japanese rider Mike Kawai was a spectacular one in 2019. We are happy to have two exclusive foals out of a very limited number of offspring,” remarked Paul.

The colt Palermo (Tokyo du Soleil x Clinton) represents a solid Limburg damline and combines very good conformation with an excellent canter. The filly Perfectomundo (Tokyo du Soleil x Kashmir van Schuttershof) was bred out of the same damline as Grand Prix showjumpers like Manuel Fernandez Saro’s Cuidam and Keean White’s Corette.

“In one of our previous auctions, we’ve sold a Grandorado TN colt out of Perfectomundo’s dam to Michael Quirke and he is really positive about that colt. It’s always good to hear from satisfied customers of the Limburg Foal Auction, so we’re happy to offer another offspring from this mare. From our 2020 foal collection in total, I know the majority of the damlines very well and that gives a lot of trust for the future”, concludes Paul Hendrix.
