THE proven sport horse stallion Future Trend and the up and coming young sire Farmhill Highlander are among the stand out lots at Cavan’s seasonal opener next week.

The duo spearheads an attractive catalogue, which opens with a sizeable collection of ponies, and follows with a varied assortment of ridden horses. Although there are no young stock or Irish Draught sectors as previously advertised, the entry numbers around 150 lots and offers buyers an interesting and quality selection.

Several of the ponies carry the ‘Premier pony’ tag, and with an emphasis on performance, many look ideal prospects for the coming season. A number of the older horses also carry proven competition or hunting form, while a smaller group of four-year-olds (nine) and three-year-olds (three) will bring the day to a close.

No one sire is especially prominent but heading the numerical list with three progeny forward are the Irish Draught sire Classic Vision, and the international show jumping stallion KEC Maximum Joe. Others with multiple representatives include Corrib Prince, Moores Clover and Womanizer.
