THE proven show jumpers WKD Spice and Tra Houston are among a number of experienced performers scheduled to come under the hammer at the Cavan performance sale next Tuesday.
These, together with a collection of well-related three-year-olds, ponies, hunters and leisure stock make up an attractive catalogue, which marks the venue’s penultimate sport horse sale for the year.
The list of covering sires is once again headed by Sligo Candy Boy (6), while also making an impact is Vivant Van de Heffinck (5). With four lots forward, the newcomer Cornet Son makes a notable appearance, as do Echonix, Imperial Hights, RC Mr Flint and Womanizer, each of whom have two progeny forward.
Ponies
Lot 12 Glengowla Sandy, reg 5 yo b m 148cm by Ros Fear Bui out of Dolcie (Cruising). This attractively-bred pony is by a son of the renowned Connemara sire Templebready Fear Bui out of a dam with performance horse bloodlines going back to Ballinvella, Water Serpent and King of Diamonds. She is currently jumping tracks to 90cm level, is measured for this year and ready to take on.
Lot 19 Potteries Superstar, reg 11 yo gr g 118cm by Powys Sarl out of Powys Seren (Waxwing Hillbilly). This smart Welsh section A pony has done it all. He has successfully competed in working hunter and show classes, as well as pony club activities. Easy in all respects, he rides well on or off the lead rein.
Lot 25 Chiddock Space Time, reg 10 yo ch g 138cm by Chiddock Time Limit out of Highmead Flirtatious (Llanarth Aristocrat). One from the intermediate height group, Chiddock Space Time is the winner of numerous show pony championships. Straightforward and described as a pony schooled to perfection, he also enjoys jumping both over show jumps and cross-country.
Competition horses
Lot 31 WKD Spice, reg 14 yo gr m by Heritage Fortunas out of HHS Clo Jo (Clover Echo). The most beautifully-bred mare, WKD Spice (1.35m) has a performance record to match. She has a wealth of experience jumping all across Europe, and has racked up multiple wins at CSI* - CSI4* shows. Bred in the purple and a valuable broodmare prospect, she is a sister to HHS Catwalk (1.60m), ridden by Mikey Pender and Max Foley, and to the event horse Cooley Kildaire (CCI4*). The dam meanwhile counts the Marion Hughes-partnered HHS Cashmere (1.50m) as a sibling.
Lot 43 Ballycoolan Cruise, reg 9 yo gr m 165cm by Cruising Ambassador out of Ballycoolan Laragh (Ballintogher Leo). An ideal horse for a young rider, and the winner of 38 SJI points to date, this mare has plenty of experience and is an easy ride.
Lot 46 Crown Pride, reg 8 yo b g 163cm by Koro D’or out of Sunshine Diamond (Coevers Diamond Boy). A fully-warranted jumper with 47 SJI points, Crown Pride has a good record in amateur and young rider classes including a placing in the National Young Riders 1.10m class. A versatile performer, he has also competed in the Eventing Ireland starter series as a four and five-year-old and has hunted.
Lot 49 Tra Houston, reg 7 yo ch m 165cm by Luidam out of Killard Moonlight (Felin de Bneville). One of the catalogue standouts, this mare is the winner of 113 SJI points to date. She competed in the RDS young rider qualifiers this year, and last season headed the RUAS six and seven-year-old qualifier, which enabled her to compete in Balmoral.
Lot 58 Lady Ushi, reg 6 yo ch m 163cm by Womanizer out of Ushi (Boreas). Currently competing to 1.20m level and with the ability to progress, this mare has clocked up 24 SJI points. Suitable to produce either to jump or event, she is eligible for the 1.10m/1.15m young rider RDS qualifiers next year.
Hunters and all-rounders
Lot 32 Carrig Brave, reg 13yo app g 150cm (breeding unknown). With 43 SJI points when registered as a pony, this experienced gelding has jumped to 1.10m level. In addition, he has competed at the RDS, is well hunted and will cross any country.
Lot 34 Cliff, reg 11 yo gr g 168cm by Lisatara Warrior out of Lisatara Finney (Golden Cliff). This genuine, quiet hunter has carried a field master for five seasons, and will cross any country first or last.
Lot 54 Harry, reg 6 yo ch g 164cm by Young Carrabawn out of Ballycurrin Amber (Crosstown Dancer). A full Irish Draught, this easy performer has hunted, hunter trialled, show jumped (unaffiliated) and taken part in the Kildare performance hunter class.
Lot 62 Unnamed (Molly), reg 6 yo gr m 160cm by Glencorran Diamond out of Maureens Dream (Unrecorded). A full Irish Draught, Molly has hunted for two seasons with the Fermanagh Harriers and Antrim Chase. She has also taken part on forest rides and group hacks and is fit and ready to go.
Lot 89 Owen, reg 5 yo gr g 155cm by Longwood Dunbelievable out of Shellabells Cashel (Owens Blossom). By a full Irish Draught out of a Connemara pony, Owen is one for all the family. Completely straightforward, he has carried a 12-year-old child out hunting and would suit riders of all abilities.
Four-year-olds
Lot 95 KBS Vibrant Blossom, reg 4 yo b f 167cm by Vivant Van De Heffinck out of Global Bloom (Lyjanero). This well-related filly has jumped at numerous shows, including the Millstreet international. She delivered a clear round in the Millstreet Discovery class and is currently competing at 1.10m level. Carrying a blacktype pedigree, both her dam and second dam jumped to 1.50m.
Lot 104 Will, reg 4 yo b g 168cm by Super Gold van de Fruitkorf out of In Style (Douglas). Currently competing in training shows and thought to be an excellent prospect for the age classes next year, this well-related gelding is out of a half-sister to the 1.60m show jumpers Dino W and From Dutch. Adding depth, there are a further eight international performers in the dam’s immediate maternal pedigree.
Three-year-olds
Lot 109 Cavalier Hights, reg 3 yo b g 166cm by Imperial Hights out of Achn Moto X (Cavalier Two For Joy). Featuring a pedigree that goes back to Master Imp, Clover Hill and Cavalier Royale, this is a full-brother to the event horse Dark Hights (CCI*Intro) and to Fourfield Firefly and Imperial Firefly, who are competing in the UK.
Lot 116 Omard Shelby, 3 yo b g 166cm by Cornet Son out of Omard Sunshine Jenny (Beach Ball). This well-related individual is out of a full-sister to Dungimmon Sunrise (1.40m) and a half-sibling to the event horse IPW Ball of Malt.
Lot 117 Unnamed, reg 3 yo b g 165cm by RC Mr Flint out of Patricks Lass (Olympic Lux). Bred to perform and one of the catalogue standouts, this gelding is a sibling to the Swiss-based Camblin Miami (1.60m), as well as to the young prospect Rock House Vant De Muze (1.20m). Hailing from a very well-known family, the dam is a full-sister to Camblin (1.60m), as well as a half-sister to Dorada (1.60m), Graceland IV (1.5m), and the event horse Halltown Harley (CCI5*).
Lot 122 Shannondale Saxon, reg 3 yo b g 166cm by Canturex V.D.F. Z - out of Whos Simply S (Shannondale Sarco). One from a versatile performance family, the dam competed to 1.30m and is a full-sister to the event horses Shannondale Mel (CCI3*) and Shannondale Icarus (CCI4*) and to the jumper Shannondale Secret (1.35m). As a half-sibling, Looks Harmony competed at 1.50m.
Lot 126 Annas Celtic Lady, reg 3 yo b f 166cm by Zambezi TN out of Grease Lightning R&B (Zirocco Blue). A standout filly, whose second dam is the D-OC Elite brood mare Nikita (KWPN) by Libero H. Nikita bred the sire Cancun VDL, ZZ Top R&B (1.45m), as well as two further jumpers at 1.40m level. Nikita in turn was also a sibling to numerous top performers, among whom were Melisimo (1.60m) and Olibero (1.60m). Adding depth, Melisimo went on to breed Robin Wood W, who competed to 1.60m level with Ben Maher.
Lot 134 Unnamed, reg 3 yo b f 162cm by Vivant van de Heffinck out of Kilrush Daughter (Courage II). Very attractively-bred and featuring Courage 11 as the dam’s sire, this filly is the first progeny out of a full-sister to the 2016 Rio Olympic event horse The Duke of Cavan (CCI5*).
Lot 136 Omard Katie, reg 3 yo gr f 170cm by Cornet Son out of Omard Ember Dolly (Beach Ball). With a show jumping and eventing pedigree, this filly is showing exceptional scope and technique. Well related, the dam is a sister to Omard Connery (1.40m), as well as to the event horse Omard on the Ball (CCI3*). The second dam meanwhile is Omard Clover Queen, who produced the American-based event horse OBOS Oreilly (CCI5*) and the show jumper Crack Star (1.45m).
