THE main autumn sales kick off at Cavan next week when a dispersal of mixed young Sport Horse stock precedes the specialist sales of registered Irish Draughts and Connemara ponies.

While the numbers are slightly down on last year, all three sectors look strong on paper and offer a smart selection for pinhookers and breeders alike.

Heading the sires list in the young stock sector is the highly commercial OBOS Quality. With a total of nine on the ground the KEC stallion is very well represented, while Natal also makes a notable appearance with four.

In Thursday’s Irish Draught division, the popular Bellamont, Carrickrock Close Shave, Diamond Design, Fintan Himself and Gentle Diamond have three progeny apiece, while in the Connemara group, Coolfin King and Westside Mirah land two each.
