CAMIRO de Haar Z, sire of Vanir Kamira, will stand in France this year after the stallion’s sale to Leslie Jenkins. Bought in Holland as a two-year-old by Creevagh House Stud’s Ronnie Hollinger, the Chellano son was fully approved by Irish Horse Board in 2007 and his new Canadian owner confirmed that the 18-year-old was officially approved this week by the Selle Français studbook.

Already approved by Zangersheide, he will initially stand in Normandy at Petite Hautier with Dr Elodie Chollet for this breeding season, with frozen semen available for the export market, and from August will move to the Jenkins Sporthorses’ French base at Haras des Jenkins in Deux-Sèvres.

“He’s been a pinnacle in putting Irish eventing horses on the map. He’s never stood outside of Ireland before so we are all very excited for his future, including Ronnie,” Jenkins told The Irish Field this week. She also plans to take Camiro de Haar Z, bred in Belgium by Piet Griffioen, to stallion shows on the continent, including Reim, Saint Lo, Lanaken and Bordeaux.

His impressive strike rate sees him with two Grade 1 runners from just five progeny registered last year with British Eventing (BE). This includes the Kathryn Jackson-bred Vanir Kamira, ranked seventh last year in BE’s top 10 horses, and second at a world-class Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials last September with Piggy French.

Vanir Kamira was 11th in the 2017 World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) event horse rankings, with her success also elevating her sire to 11th place amongst the WBFSH eventing sires.

Out of the Ramiro mare Namira de Haar, Camiro de Haar Z was originally produced for his Monaghan owner by Damien McDermott and was later competed at international level by Richard Howley and Frank Curran, plus the now US-based riders, Paul O’Shea and David Blake.
