FOLLOWING the success of last year’s Connemara pony sale, the second renewal is due to take place at the Mullingar Equestrian Centre, next Sunday..

Delivering a catalogue of 70 lots, the sale of the native breed will run in conjunction with a further catalogue of sport horses, hunters, youngsters and ponies of other breeds.

It is the collection of the Connemara ponies that initially catch the eye. Entry highlights include ponies from some of Europe and Ireland’s best performance bloodlines, and featuring among them are lots by Dexter Leam Pondi, Templebready Fear Bui as well as the international showjumper Kilpatrick Fionn.

There was strong international interest in the Connemara ponies at last month’s mixed sale and, as a result, customers from France, The Netherlands and Sweden have already confirmed their intention to attend.

As usual, buyers will have the opportunity to view and trial the performance ponies on the day of sale, as they will for the horses which will come under the hammer later in the session.

Standing out among the entries are:

Lot 11 Killowen Fearn, reg 1yo b f 138cms by Shannonside Kilmore Jacob out of Killowen Hazel (Gwennic de Goariva). Featuring the highly rated French show jumping champion Gwennic de Goariva as the dam’s sire, this filly could make a smart performance or breeding pony.

Lot 12 Lisbrack Meabh, reg 1yo dun f 138cms by Crosskeys Rebel out of Rosmadda Cailin Bui (Templebready Fear Bui). Carrying the best of performance breeding on both sides of her pedigree, this well-bred filly is by Crosskeys Rebel, the sire of the Olympic event horse Portersize Just a Jiff. Adding further depth, the dam carries Class 1 status, and is by another top performance sire Templebready Fear Bui.

Lot 27 Kilpatrick Buttercup, reg 4yo gr f 140cms by Dexter Leam Pondi out of Kilpatrick Maple (Monaghanstown Fred). Carrying the well-known Kilpatrick prefix, this filly presents an opportunity to buy into an attractive bloodline. The sire is a European show jumping gold medallist, while the dam is a sibling to the international performers Ballyowen Maybell M and Kilpatrick Fionn. This filly qualified for the four-year-old loose jumping at Clifden this year, and is broken and riding well.

Lot 42 Rosmadda Cailin Bui, reg 6yo d m 146cms by Templebready Fear Bui out of Southeast Hero (Streamstown Larry). A class 1 mare, Cailin Bui has a dun colt foal by Carnakilty Finn (Dexters Leam Pondi) at foot. She was broken as a four-year-old, and shows a good jump loose.

HORSES

Lot 52 Banada Rockstar, reg 4yo b g by Chippison out of Almost Forgotten (Mount Oriel). By the multiple Nations Cup show jumping sire Chippison, this gelding is green but is showing potential. Very quiet, he is thought to be a suitable all-rounder, working hunter, hunter or a show jumper.
