Owned by Broderick’s stalwart supporters Caledonia Stables, this eight-year-old gelding has shown promise of great things from the start. He won the five and six-year-old Irish Breeders Classic in 2012, qualified twice for the RDS and recording several placings at National Grand Prix level as a seven-year-old.
Bred by Ita Brennan in Gowran, Co Kilkenny, MHS Going Global (ISH) is by Quidam Junior I (KWPN) out of Gowran Lady (ISH), by Cavalier Royale (HOLST). In the past Broderick has described the gelding as “the best horse I’ve ever sat on” and “a future Nations’ Cup horse, a proper championship horse.”
Consistent combination Damien Griffin and Tabby came fresh from a win at the Connaught Grand Prix in Tubberbride to claim the runner-up spot today with the second double clear of the competition. Pamela Donaghy’s nine-year-old bay gelding by Captain Clover out of a Cruising mare is also a graduate of the ISH Studbook series, having won both as a five-year-old and a six-year-old. Third place went to Dean Rogan and Falco Van Spieveld who carried just a single time fault from the first round through to the end.
