Dutch gold

THE eighth FEI World Single Driving Championships took place in Izsák, Hungary last weekend with Dutch driver, Wilbrord van den Broek, claiming individual gold and Germany taking team gold for the third time in a row.

Team silver went to France, while Switzerland moved up to third place and bronze medal position.

Four-time Dutch champion, van den Broek and his 18-year-old gelding Oscar beat German competitor’s Claudia Lauterbach and Marlen Fallak, who finished second and third respectively.

Irish representative Matt Were finished 47th of the 77 competitors after four days of intense competition, having finished the opening dressage phase in 24th.

LCC Puss N Boots

LUCY Buchanan’s mount in the five-year-old consolation class at the WBFSH World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses was inadvertently referred to as a mare in last week’s report from Lanaken. By Lux Z, the grey gelding LCC Puss N Boots (previously known as Curra Lux) is out of Springs Pride (WNTR), herself by Spring Elegance (WNTR). Bred by Andrew Kirwan in Co Waterford, LCC Puss N Boots is the second progeny of Springs Pride to compete at Lanaken.

Babington place

TIPPERARY’s Kevin Babington finished in the top five of the €96,550 Grand Prix at New Albany CSI** show in America recently.

Babington was riding his and Deirdre Bourns Irish Sort Horse gelding Mark Q (by OBOS Quality) who was bred by John and Barbra Walshe in Co Carlow.
