GORESBRIDGE’s Supreme Sale of Showjumpers made the headlines beyond the confines of the equestrian media last year when Dougie Douglas was knocked down to Barry O’Connor for an Irish sport horse sale record price of €1.4 million.

The Malahide agent declined to name his American client that night but the purchaser of the 2005 Ard VDL Douglas gelding turned out to be Katie Dinan. The partnership won the €50,000 National Grand Prix at Florida’s Winter Equestrian Festival in February and were on the fourth-placed USA team in the Furusiyya FEI Nations’ Cup at Hickstead in July.

Dinan and Dougie Douglas grace the front cover of this year’s catalogue while on the back are other Goresbridge graduates competing with success aboard such as Ard Ginger Pop (the 2014 sales-topper) and Talks Cheap, silver and bronze medal winners at the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Next Tuesday, this season’s World Champion six-year-old, Killossery Kaiden, comes up as Lot 112 at the sale and there is bound to be huge interest in KM Sporthorses’ Lux Z gelding who has been so well produced in the past two years by Ger O’Neill.

Killossery Kaiden, who won at Lanaken with the only double clear in the final round of the 266-starter Championship, won an RDS qualifier at Mullingar this year, a round of the ISH series at Cork and shared first place in a similar competition at Louth County. He was bred by Frank and Laura Glynn out of the top jumping mare Killossery Kruisette (Cruising).

J.J. Bowe’s Harlassimo (Lot 121), a three-year-old grey Harlequin du Carel gelding, is from the same family.

As mentioned in these pages previously, the Germany-based Gestüt Eichenhain has entered two KWPN-registered mares. These are Kadari (Lot 103), a Karandasj 11-year-old, and the Balou du Rouet Z eight-year-old Battle Cry (Lot 107). Carl Hanley Sport Horses consigns the nine-year-old Oldenburg mare Nickoletta E (Lot 105), a consistently-placed daughter of Nintender.

ISH mares with good performance records who are catalogued include Paddy Musgrave’s 12-year-old Hermes de Reve chesnut Riverside Ace (Lot 102), Gabriel Tunney’s Carragher six-year-old Castle Courage Clover (Lot 114), Kathryn O’Hagan’s Balmoral and Dublin winner CHS Krooze (Lot 115), a six-year-old by Kroongraaf, and Anne-Marie Pender’s Curra Clover Flight (Lot 116), a Barnaby Flight bay who won the six-year-old consolation final at Lanaken.

The only stallions with two representatives in the sale are Ballymureen Stud’s Ars Vivendi and Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet, who stands locally at the Tullabeg Stud in Camolin.

The former is sire of Kieran Kennedy’s ISH gelding Focus Vendi KBS (Lot 113), a six-year-old ISH gelding who has recorded wins in age classes this season, and Tom Casey’s three-year-old bay gelding (Lot 128) whose OBOS Quality 004-sired dam is a half-sister to the advanced eventer Bally Casssidy (Olympic Lux).

The Dignified three-year-olds are very closely related. Conor Callahan is selling B On Que (Lot 122), a gelding out of Barnadown Looks, while Maurice Cousins sells Luzie B (Lot 129), a filly out of Barnadown Luxie, dam also of the good young jumper SRS Catwalk. Both Lux Z dams are full-sisters to the four-star eventer Fernhill Fugitive.

Goresbridge sold their first embryo at this sale last year and Lot 131 next week is another embryo by the same sire, Cornet Obolensky. This one is out of P.J. Ryan and Greg Broderick’s Arko III mare Abby V Overis Z who won the four-year-old championship at the RDS in July.

Oldtown Isle (Lot 132) is being sold to raise funds for the Gavin Glynn Foundation which helps families take children overseas for cancer treatment.

Purchased for €13,500 at Cavan’s Elite foal sale in September by Niall Talbot and Peter O’Toole, the bay colt is a son of Emerald van’t Ruytershof. His dam is the international jumper Oldtown Katie (Clover Fields), who comes from the family of Abbervail Dream and is dam previously of the international performers Oldtown KC, Oldtown Judy K and Oldtown Gypsy Jazz.
