HEADING into week two of the six-day sale, it is the three-year-olds who take centre stage. For the purists, this is the most important feature of the marathon and the catalogue of 487 lots will appeal to buyers across the board.

Well-related fillies and geldings appear in abundance, and many by this year’s leading covering sire OBOS Quality. The Kennedy Bros’ stallion dominates, with 51 lots on the ground, while the Ringwood Stud’s Future Trend is also popular with 19 horses forward. Among the others to appear in number are the Ballymureen Stud’s perennially popular Harlequin du Carel (14), the Shannondale Stud’s Shannondale Sarco (12) and the two thoroughbred sires Watermill Swatch (10) and Pointilliste (9).

There are some outstanding pedigrees on show, including the filly Coachella by Ustinov (Lot 727) whose half-brother headed this sale at €16,000 three years ago.

Lot 555 Ballinaguilkey Deluxe, reg 3yo b f 16hh by Lux Z out of Cavalier Milly (Ramiro B). One of a multitude of well-related fillies in the catalogue, Deluxe is out of a half-sister to MHS LaScala (1.60m) and also the Lanaken bronze medallist Ballypatrick Mystique. From a very stout family, other siblings to the dam include eight graded show jumpers, among which is the grade A performer Bye Bye Baby, and the grade B performer MHS Penton.

Lot 577 Ballymolloy Sibonna, reg 3yo br f 16.2hh by Sibon W out of Ballymolloy Epona (Ghareeb). Dam is a full-sister to the CIC3* event horse Ghareeb King (Anna Warneke) as well as the China-based CIC2* event horse Spring Aurora.

Lot 606 Unnamed, reg 3yo b f 168cms by OBOS Quality out of Cushlamochree (Cruising). Dam was a prominent young show jumper, who qualified for the RDS as a four-year-old, and for HOYS the following year. From the old maternal line of the show jumpers Mr Ross (1.60m) and Precaun (1.50m).

Lot 637 Dowdstown Hottie, reg 3yo b f 167cms by OBOS Quality out of Ballintogher Whatahottie (Cavalier Royale). The second dam of this well-related filly is a full-sister to the Rich Fellers-ridden Ballintogher Kruiser (1.40m) and a half-sister to Dreamin (1.50m) partnered by Thomas Hauri. Also to Dreaming Of U, dam of the Nations Cup performers HHS Fortuna (1.60m) and HHS Figero (1.60m).

Lot 644 Kilrodan Duchess reg 3yo b f 16hh by Boherdeal Clover out of Kilrodan Special O (Rich Rebel). This traditionally bred filly is a full-sister to the advanced event horse and RDS small event horse winner Kilrodan Queen B.

Lot 659 Unnamed, reg 3yo b f 16.2hh by Future Trend out of Air Cruise (Cruising). Another to feature the influential Cruising as the dam’s sire, this filly is out of a half-sister to the international show jumpers Windgates Paragon (1.40m), ridden by Conor Swail, and Luxella (1.40m), ridden by Dereck McCoppin. Also to several registered event horses, and to the useful Fanny Farkle and Prozac.

Lot 666 Unnamed, reg 3yo b f 16hh by OBOS Quality out of Lady Carel (Harlequin du Carel). Dam is full-sister to RRC Roulette (1.20m) and to the promising event horse MBF Harley Rebel who has recently qualified for the British five-year-old championships under Izzy Taylor.

Lot 727 Coachella, reg 3yo gr f 16.2hh by Ustinov out of Icing (Cruising). From a very smart modern family, Coachella is out of the five-star show jumping broodmare Icing. This filly is a half-sister to the international jumpers Derryinver Luxury Cruise (1.50m) and Nonstop III (1.50m) as well as the international winner True Grit (1.30m). She is also a full-sister to the exciting four-year-old Dunaghmore (Neal Fearon) who delivered a double clear round in the four-year-old class at the RDS last month. Dam is a twin of the stallion Oldtown KC (1.60m) who was placed in Lanaken, and also at HOYS. The grandam Oldtown Katie was a big winner at Grand Prix level (1.50m) and has numerous graded progeny.

Lot 546 Darco Q, reg 3yo b g 16.2hh by Amaretto Darco out of Jump The Q (OBOS Quality). Another bred in the purple, this gelding is a half-brother to the promising four-year-old Cooley Jump The Q.
