Higgins prepping eight lots

ONE of the busiest people at the upcoming Goresbridge Go For Gold Sale will be Jason Higgins who is prepping eight horses for the dispersal at his base of Mary and Philip Bolger’s Kilcannon yard outside Enniscorthy.

First to come before spectators at Barnadown will be Mary Kehoe’s mare Omaybe (Lot 8) who is by Omar out of Meadstown Flash by Holycross. Under Higgins, the bay was reserve in the five-year-old young event horse championship at the RDS in August. She is jumping at 1.20m level and has 20 Show Jumping Ireland points.

In a number of partnerships, Higgins has a share with Brian Flynn in MSH Bonanza (Lot 31), a four-year-old Ufo gelding who is out of a thoroughbred mare by Great Palm. Among the other lots being consigned by Higgins is his own Conroy LVS (Lot 47) who, although bred in Tipperary, is registered with the Zangersheide Studbook. The three-year-old grey gelding is by Corbra out of the Dutch Warmblood mare Nukretia (by Holland).

In partnership with Muriel Kehoe, Higgins is offering Lot 53, an unnamed three-year-old gelding by Quidam Junior I. The bay’s dam, Maxi Match (by OBOS Quality 004) is a full-sister to the 1.30m jumper Mini Match. The Kilcannon consignment also features one of just two three-year-old fillies in the sale, Lot 65, a dark bay daughter of Future Trend out of the Last News mare Annaharvey Klipspringer.

Also coming up from the Enniscorthy yard is Mary Bolger’s Kilcannon Nice Guy (Lot 78), a three-year-old grey gelding by Loughehoe Guy out of Off Piste who is by the thoroughbred Mourne Mountains. This fellow was bred in Scotland where his dam won the lightweight broodmare class at this year’s Royal Highland Show while his full-sister topped the foal class.

As Brian Flynn and Meabh Bolger have a horse with Higgins, he, in return, has one with them, MBF Online (Lot 43), a four-year-old brown gelding by Luidam out of a Lion d’Or mare.

Flynn and Bolger are also consigning MBF Lance (Lot 7). A five-year-old by Lancelot out of a Cavalier Royale mare, this brown gelding was placed in the Stepping Stones to Success league and was double clear in all three of his Eventing Ireland runs. Another 2012 gelding is Billy McArthur (Lot 19), a chesnut by Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve out of a Vechta half-sister to the Will Funnell-ridden Billy McCain (1.60m).
