FOUR vendors have two horses apiece catalogued for next week’s Goresbridge Go For Gold Sale with Co Leitrim’s Marian Tighe selling a pair of home-breds.

The first, Kiltubrid McCoy (Lot 22) is a four-year-old OBOS Quality 004 filly who has six Showjumping Ireland points. From the family of Barnaboy Freeman (CICO3*) and out of a Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan mare, her grandam is a half-sister to the Cavalier Royale gelding, Shannondale Truman (1.60m).

Tighe’s flashy dark brown gelding, Kiltubrid Harley (Lot 49), is one of two lots in the sale by Sligo Candy Boy. The three-year-old is out of the Lombardo mare Kiltubrid Heather and is thus a half-brother to the Cascaletto St Ghyvan Z gelding Kiltubrid Rhapsody (CCI4*) and a full-brother to Kiltubrid Candy who was the top-priced filly at this sale last November when purchased for €40,000 by Stella Benatti.

The other Sligo Candy Boy produce is Mimi Falb’s four-year-old black gelding Castle Black Jack (Lot 24) whose Castle VDL Douglas-sired dam is a half-sister to the Courage II gelding Camembert (CCI5*-L).

Co Carlow’s Thomas Quigley is consigning two horses, the first being the Tolan R five-year-old Ballyshan Contender (aka Cooley Nutcracker). This black gelding (Lot 6), who has done a small amount of show jumping and has been schooled cross-country, is out of a Cobra half-sister to the Mermus R mare Ballyshan Rochelle (CSI3*).

His four-year-old Future Trend half-brother, Ballyshan Trendsetter (Lot 12), who finished sixth in the Millstreet Discovery young event horse final, is being consigned by John Codd.

Bennys Legacy

Quigley’s second offering is Benny’s Kelly (Lot 48) who was fourth in the potential event horse championship at the Dublin Horse Show. The three-year-old bay gelding by Tullibards Bennys Legacy is out of the Harlequin du Carel mare Touched Clover HDC.

Another three-year-old gelding by the same sire is Martin O’Meara’s Bennys Pride Cavalier (Lot 60). The striking grey is out of a Don Juan de la Bouverie dam.

Frank Casey is selling two unnamed three-year-old geldings by thoroughbred sires. The first, Lot 53, is a chesnut son of Pointilliste out of a Master Imp mare out of a Diamond Serpent mare, while the second, Lot 63, is a bay by Chinook Eclipse out of a Coolcronan Wood dam.

Sheila and Gavin Ryan are selling the Pointilliste five-year-old Dear Lofty (Lot 4), a home-bred chesnut gelding who has completed two EI100 events. He is out of the Tasset mare Dear Maud (CIC3*) and comes from the family of Fernhill Tabasco (WEG-C).

With breeder Julia Ponsonby, Gavin and Sarah Ryan are selling Kilcooley Kilbarri (Lot 42), a three-year-old Pointilliste gelding out of the Master Imp mare Paudell Cailin Dubh.

Eight thoroughbred stallions have sired 10 of the 74 lots catalogued. Three-year-old bay geldings by such sires not mentioned elsewhere are Henry Foley’s Sadlers Clover Storm (Lot 38), by the Sadler’s Wells horse Suleiman out of a Stormhill Miller mare from the family of Billy Dorito (CSI5*); Sharon O’Gorman’s home-bred Munthers Douglas (Lot 64), by Munther out of an Ard VDL Douglas half-sister to Fabulous Joe (CSI3*); and Bertie Williams’s home-bred Kilmurry Gayle (Lot 71), by Grand Gayle out of a Cavalier Royale mare.
