THE Monbeg Sport Horses team of Tomás Doyle and his wife Marti Rudd, who sold the top-priced lot at the 2023 Goresbridge Go For Gold Sale, the elsewhere-mentioned Monbeg Condor, are consigning 11 animals to this year’s renewal including three well-related home-bred Irish Sport Horse three-year-olds.
Let’s work backwards. Monbeg Nancy (Lot 59) is a bay filly by Sandro van de Berghoeve out of OBOS Nancy Broone, dam previously of the OBOS Quality 004 siblings OBOS Pepper Pot (1.40m), OBOS Take One (CCI4*-L) and OBOS Primadonna (1.35m) among others.
The 2003 mare, who has no recorded sire, is a half-sister to the OBOS Quality 004 siblings OBOS Special B (1.45m), OBOS Nidge (CCI4*-L), etc.
Monbeg Kalahari (Lot 40) is a brown son of Kafka vd Heffinck out of the highly-regarded Monbeg Amber. This 2017 Luidam mare is a half-sister to Monbeg Ruby (1.50m) and Monbeg Rising (1.30m), while her dam, the Boherdeal Clover mare Ballycapple Mist (1.40m), is a half-sister to Ballycapple Diamond Cruise (1.40m).
Monbeg Mojito (Lot 30), a black son of Sligo Candy Boy, is a half-brother to the Harlequin du Carel gelding Monbeg Hendricks (CCI3*-L). This is also the family of Foxes Zorro (1.40m) and Kilsale Flamenco (1.40m).
Among the other eight in the draft, Monbeg Echo Bay stands out as he is catalogued as Lot 1. The five-year-old Presidential Ball gelding is out of the OBOS Quality 004 mare Madges Lane Karol (1.45m), dam previously of the Luidam brothers Madgeslane Louis (1.55m) and Madgeslane Luidam (1.30m). This is also the family of CHS Inception (1.60m).
Mention also must be made of Monbeg Monaco (Lot 11), a four-year-old KWPN-registered grey gelding by the young show jumping sire Malcomme P (by Comme Il Faut); ESI Monbeg Mercury (Lot 21), a four-year-old Hos d’O gelding out of the Clover Echo mare ESI Georgia (1.50m); MHB Monbeg Alicante (Lot 70), a three-year-old Alicante half-brother to the Cazaan gelding MHB Ask Cazaan (1.40m); and Monbeg Navara (Lot 80), a three-year-old Zirocco Blue VDL gelding from the family of Spartacus (1.45m) Cilena (1.50m) and Chandor (1.60m).
