Full-brother to previous sale-toppers offered
BILLY Daly will be paying particular attention at the Goresbridge Go For Gold Sale to a trio of three-year-olds by the Hanoverian stallion Newmarket Venture who he stands at the Scarteen Stud, Newmarket, Co Cork.
Daly is consigning the home-bred Newmarket Patriot (Lot 47) who, being out of the Clover Hill mare Kilderry Clover, is a full-brother to the Nicola Wilson-ridden pair of Annie Clover (CCI4*) and Mattie Clover (CCI2*-L) and also to Michael Ryan’s mount, Gurtera Jimmy Clover (CCI2*-L).
The now seven-year-old Mattie Clover topped this sale in 2017 when sold for €130,000 by Sophie Richards and Steven Smith, while Gurtera Jimmy Clover, who is a year younger, also headed the price list when knocked down for €23,000 at the Goresbridge May select sale of event horses earlier that year.
Showing star
Newmarket Patriot has rarely left the confines of Scarteen Stud unlike the Daly-bred Kilmastulla Newmarket Knight (Lot 40) who, in his first season being shown in hand, was crowned Horse Sport Ireland all-Ireland three-year-old champion at Bannow and Rathangan in July.
The black gelding is being sold by Michael and Rachel Lyons who collected a huge number of ribbons, sashes and silverware over the summer with Kilmastulla Newmarket Knight.
He is out of the thoroughbred mare Ballymac’s Present (by Presenting) who won two point-to-point races and was placed over hurdles.
The third Newmarket Venture produce is Blueford Galaxy who will round up the sale as Lot 74. Being consigned by Sean Hourigan, the grey filly was bred by Billy Daly’s neighbour, Amanda Lincoln, out of the traditionally-bred Coevers Diamond Boy mare Coevers Cosmos. She is a full-sister to Blueford Adventure who is eventing in Britain.
Well-related
The only other Hanoverian stallion with stock in the sale is Sir Shutterfly whose five-year-old son, Javas Manhattan (Lot 8), is being consigned by his Co Louth breeder, Judy Murphy.
The dark brown gelding, who has done a small bit of show jumping himself, is a half-brother to, among others, the VDL Douglas gelding Javas Wild Child (ridden by Jessie Drea at CSIO5*).
The aforementioned Sophie Richards sold Mattie Clover as a five-year-old and this year is consigning the similarly-aged Harlequin du Carel gelding, Here And Now (Lot 3). Out of a traditionally-bred Clover Hill mare, the chesnut has 32 Showjumping Ireland points, has won a dressage league and been placed in an unaffiliated event.
