MBF Sport Horses sold the top-priced three-year-old at Wednesday’s Goresbridge Go For Gold Sale when their KWPN-registered gelding MBF Shadow (Lot 35), who was put on the market at €47,000, was knocked down for €60,000.

Signing for the Mees VD Watermolen chesnut was British event horse owner Karla Wheatcroft, who is a staunch supporter of this sale having made such costly purchases previously as the Max Warburton-ridden pair Monbeg Condor and Monbeg Can Do.

Along with Ireland’s Susie Berry, Warburton bought two three-year-old bay geldings. They gave €38,000 for Lot 56, John Widger’s Grantstown Moonshine (by Colandro out of a thoroughbred mare by Maher) and €30,000 for Lot 60, MBF Sport Horses’ BLF Magicman MBF (by Madgeslane Luidam out of a thoroughbred mare by Jet Away). For a client, Warburton gave €27,000 for Lot 76, Joe Burke’s Coolparks Candyman (by Sligo Candy Boy out of an ISH mare by Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan).

Buying on his own, Warburton parted with €30,000 for MBF Sport Horses and Higgins Sporthorses’ MBF Stretch A Bill (Lot 82), a three-year-old chesnut gelding by Ard VDL Douglas out of a mare by Flex A Bill whose family in further removes features the top-class racehorses Baillamont and Le Vie Dei Colori.

Hefty

The second-highest priced three-year-old was Trade Horse Ltd’s Ravensdale Mr Blue (Lot 66), a Chacoon Blue gelding whose Ustinov-sired dam is a half-sister of the Indoctro geldings Cingdoctro (1.50m) and Dindoctro (1.55m). The bay was purchased for €50,000 by Britain’s Ian Barrett who had already made a hefty purchase in the older horses’ section.

Barrett also signed the €32,000 chit for Lot 49, Brandonview Stud’s unnamed three-year-old gelding by SHS Soco Blue out of an OBOS Quality 004 half-sister to Wilywonty (1.45m) and CSF Whiterock Cruise (1.40m) and gave €25,000 for Higgins Sporthorses and Aoife Dooley’s Vivardo (Lot 34), a three-year-old bay gelding by Vivant van de Heffinck

Back to MBF Sport Horses who, along with Alice Martin Jones, sold Clea MBF Keiser (Lot 7), a four-year-old gelding by the Connemara show jumping stallion Carnahilly Mac Guire, to a young rider based on the west coast of the USA, Valerie Markowski for €40,000. Another American buyer, Ruthie Meyer, gave the same amount for MBF Sport Horses and Jason Higgins Sporthorses’ Hallsmill Rockstar MBF (Lot 44), a gelded son of Rock ‘N Roll Ter Putte out of a Valent half-sister to Lucianna 44 (1.45m).

Top filly

Britain’s David Mitson signed for four lots, giving his highest price of €40,000 for the highest-priced filly, H&J Sporthorses’ Kinmar Dancer (Lot 45). This three-year-old bay by Riesling van’t Roosakker is out of the Zangersheide mare Zherya Hero Z, a half-sister to the 1.60m performers Domingo and Wizard.

Two other three-year-olds purchased by Mitson were Lot 61, Kellistown Stud and Beechfield Stables’ unnamed grey gelding by Quality Time out of a Clarimo mare for whom he gave €36,000 and Lot 85, MBF Sport Horses’ MBF Storm Mount, for whom he gave €34,000. The latter, a gelding son of Hiello, is out of the Romabo mare Breemount Rocket (1.40m).
