Carrying a catalogue of 246 lots, next week’s two-day Summer Sale at Cavan includes a number of horses and ponies with competitive form, as well as several fully warranted and proven hunters.

Ridden Connemaras and Irish Draughts feature on both days, as do some very well-related mares. Among these is a five-year-old by Cavalier Royale (dam by Flagmount King) and an outstandingly-bred filly from the dam’s line of the international performers Kilcoltrim, Royal Athlete and MHS Going Global.

The younger age groups are also represented each day, with a total of 22 four-year-olds and four three-year-olds.

The list of covering sires is lengthy, but leading the numerical list with three apiece are Coevers Diamond Boy, Hermes de Reve and Trendy Glider. Other sires with multiple entries include Ard VDL Douglas, Chippison, Cougar, French Buffet, Gurran Golden Eye, Laerkins Cascades Dawn, Ramiro B, Silvano and Wenever.

PONIES

Lot 3 Lady Jane, reg 6 yo sk m 128cms. An early lot with a glowing recommendation is the six-year-old Lady Grey. Described as a bombproof first-timer and one in a million, Lady Grey has been used in a riding school as a mount for disabled children. She is also a very useful performer, jumping up to 80cms in the riding school and bigger across the country.

Lot 20 Rathlacken CJ, reg 6 yo gr st 148cms by Laerkens Cascade Dawn (dam by Robin Hood). Catching the eye as a ridden Connemara is this class 1 stallion with a wealth of competition form. A multiple show winner in-hand and under saddle, he has also show jumped to win 22 SJI points and is the winner of two winter show jumping leagues. He is well hunted, having regularly followed the Tipperary Foxhounds for the past two seasons. Rathlacken CJ is one of several lots than can be viewed online prior to sale.

Lot 29 Castlegar Diamond Streak, reg 10 yo ch m 146cms by The Artist. Regularly jumped for the past four years, this reliable jumping pony has a career total of 317 SJI points.

Lot 135 Littlefield JJ, reg 7 yo gr g 138cms by Castleside JJ. Selling on Wednesday morning, Littlefield JJ is an easy, honest performer who has successfully started a show jumping career. He is a super hunter who will go first or last, and importantly could be ridden by a beginner.

Lot No 151 Thornfield Shadow, reg 5 yo gr g 148cms by Longstone Silver Shadow out of Aran Flight (by Bloomfield Bobby). Possibly the pick of the younger performers is this Class 1 Connemara gelding with 10 SJI points. Described as well-schooled and consistent, he carries a full warranty and a gentleman in every way. With an abundance of potential, he moves well and has pony clubbed and hunted.

COMPETITION HORSES

Lot 63 Mambrino, reg 6 yo b m 167cms by Cougar (dam by Easy Lift). A traditionally-bred mare by a son of Cruising. Mambrion has showjumped up to 1.10m level and has competed in one Eventing Ireland pre-novice event at Tyrella, where she finished on her dressage score.

Lot 190 Lavill Flowerdale, reg 6 yo ch g 178cms by Vechta (dam by Don Juan de la Bouverie). An easy horse carrying 87 SJI points won in classes up to 1.20m.

HORSES

Lot 43 Shanbally Supreme, reg 10 yo b m 168cms by Ard VDL Douglas (dam by Royal Persian). This mare is a true all-rounder who has jumped up to 1.30 level accumulating 151 SJI points. An experienced Puissance horse, she is also brave across the country and has carried the whip with the North Galway Foxhounds for the past two seasons.

Lot 86 Jinx in Clover, reg 5 yo br m 165cms by Ricardo Z (dam by Ruffo). Jinx in Clover has hunted with the Stonehall Harriers and the Co Limerick Foxhounds. She has just started her competitive career, winning three SJI points to date.

Lot 172 Smart Alec, reg 8 yo ch g 165cms by Amiro M (dam by Riverman). Smart Alec won the riding horse championship at the Northern Ireland Festival in 2010, and was reserve ridden horse champion in the same year. He has since been placed third in the lightweight hunters at the RDS and successfully competed in working hunter classes.

Lot 185 Glamour Puss, reg 6 yo ch m 158cm by French Buffet (dam by Carrabawn View). This top class small show hunter won his class at the Northern Ireland Festival last year, and was reserve supreme hunter champion. He has also been successful in working hunter classes and has hunted.

HUNTERS

Lot 42 Joes Flight, reg 12 yo b g 178cms by Wenever (dam by Carrolls Flight). This seasoned hunter has hunted with the North Kerry Harriers for the past five years. Suitable to carry a novice, he has also competed in a few training shows.

Lot 57, reg 7 yo b g 170cms by Coevers Diamond Boy (dam by Cruising). An attractively-bred hunter who has hunted and whipped-in for the past three seasons.

Lot 74 Florry, reg 6 yo gr g 168cms by Windgap Blue (dam by Salluceva). Carrying the traditional Irish Draught/thoroughbred cross, this individual has hunted for two seasons with the Ballymacad and the Meath Foxhounds.

Lot 83 Hollys Princess, reg 5 yo b m 168cms by Wenever (dam by Cruising). The winner of 15 SJI points to date, Hollys Princess is a half-sister to the useful Hollys Hope, winner of 79 points. Also half-sister to the Dutch-based 1.30m performer Kilmullen Olympic Cruise and the intermediate event horse Rainy Days.

Lot 91 KEC Pixxie, reg 5 yo b m 166cms by Aldatus Z (dam by Glidawn Diamond). KEC Pixxie is a full sister to KEC Pandora, who was a six-year-old champion in southern Germany, and who progressed to compete at 1.40m level with Barbara Steur-Collee. Pixxie competed in the Millstreet Spring Tour this year.

Lot 100 KEC Iris, reg 5 yo b m 169cms by KEC Maximum Joe (dam by Glidawn Diamond). Another offering from the Kennedy consignment, Iris is by the top international stallion KEC Maximum Joe, and hails from the dam’s family of KEC Cocktail Jet, KEC Cocktail Hour, KEC Akrobat and KEC Akko.

Lot 114 Unnamed, reg 4 yo b m by Ramiro B (dam by Hallo). This interestingly-bred mare is by the very commercial Ramiro B, out of a dam’s line which goes back to Ceredigion. Her grandam is a full sister to the stallion Pallas Digion, sire of the British Olympic event horse Springalong.

Lot 118 Cornascriebe Quida Diamond, reg 4 yo ch f 168cms by A Quidam M (dam by Diamond Serpent). This filly has one of the best dam lines in the country. Well-related, she is a half-sister to Cornascriebe Cava Diamond (327 SJI points), while her dam counts the international show jumper Royal Athlete as a half-brother. Also from the direct dam’s line of MHS Going Global, Ballypatrick Flight, Royal Anthem and MHS Automatoc. Her grandam is a full sister to Kilcoltrim. Having just embarked on her own competitive career, she qualified for the young event class at Balmoral, finishing eighth in the final. A rare chance to buy a young daughter of Cavalier Royale, out of a traditional dam. The dam, Derrylossett Bay Dolly, is a full sister to the grade A show jumpers Clonterm Maybe and Streeve Diamond.
