CAVAN’S mid-summer sports horse renewal takes place over one day on Wednesday of next week. Organisers will be hoping that the catalogue of 169 lots mirrors the buoyancy of the April sale, which delivered a good clearance together with some lively exchanges.

The action opens as usual with a wide variety of ponies (71) which are followed by a selection of proven performers, hunters and youngsters.

The seasonal emphasis is on stock with current competition form, among which are both show jumpers and event horses. The group of four-year-olds also looks attractive, and while the three-year-olds may lack number, there are some well-bred individuals included. No one sire stands out, but among those with two progeny forward are Chippison, Cobra, Diamond Design, Ringfort Cruise and Samgemjee.

PONIES

Lot 2 Miss Temple, reg 9 yo b m 128cms. One from the smallest height group, Miss Temple has 23 SJI points to date. She was reserve champion working hunter pony at the Kingdom County Fair in Tralee earlier this year, and is only for sale as her rider is outgrown.

Lot 4 Thunder, reg 9 yo b g 128cms. For those looking for a hunting schoolmaster for the smallest child, Thunder could fit the bill.
