BRINGING a very busy month to a close, the sales action returns to Cavan where a two-day renewal of youngstock and Irish Draughts commences on Tuesday.

The opening day is confined to young sport horse stock and highlighted by a Premier Selection of well related foals (33). The overall numerical stallion list for these is headed by Sligo Candy Boy (9), while also prominent are Corporal VDL (6), Cornet Son and Vivant van de Heffinck with five apiece. Wednesday meanwhile is devoted to the National Registered Irish Draught sale, which features both breeding and sporting stock.

Lot 24 Unnamed, reg b c f by Cascari out of Crosskeys Lady (Limmerick). The sire Cascari, owned by Bertram Allen, is a first-season stallion in Ireland, having previously stood in Italy and Sweden. This colt also has a stout dam line, being out of the useful Crosskeys Lady (1.20m) who is a sibling to four international horses. Among them is the Germany-based Nation Cup (CCIO-4*) event horse Black Ice (Jerome Robine), as well as the three-star event horse Bikini (Jonathan Steele).

Lot 26 Clabbystown Cornet, reg gr c f by Glynnwood Cornet out of Kasanta (Tyson). By the Cornet Obolenskey-sired Glynnwood Cornet, this colt is out of a sister to Valanta (1.55m) and two further graded horses. The second dam Lavanta (Nimmerdor) has been awarded an Elite Pref Prest by KWPN Studbook, while the fourth dam is a sister to the Keur stallion Renville (1.60cm).

Lot 27 Unnamed, reg gr f f by Cornet Son out of Cedarmount Sally (Vriend). Bred for either sport, this filly is closely related on both the sire and dam side to the event horse Direct Tullyoran Cruise, winner of Strzegom CC14*L in 2020 and selected for the Japanese Olympic team. Also related to Gortlettra Loui, winner of the SJI National Grand Prix in Mullingar 2021 (Mikey Pender). Others from the maternal line line include Carlingford Shiver (CCI4*) and the international showjumper Lord Clover (1.50m).

Lot 36 Carnally Romeo, reg b c f by HHS Cornet out of Cregadill (Touchdown). Attractively bred, this colt is half-brother to the Hagen Grand Prix-winning jumper Porcha (1.45m), ridden by Anabelle Hefron, as well as the British-based event horse Cartoon (CCI3*-L now CCI4*).

Lot 78 Unnamed, reg b c f by ESH Land Ahoy out of Creevyquin Moraya (Corland). Bearing a very topical pedigree, the dam is a sister to Creevyquinn Poseur who is competing in the ISH six-year-old classes with Jenny Rankin, and to the highly rated America-based young jumper FF Uno Tinus (2017). Even more notable however, is that another half-sister to the dam is the headline-making foal Creevyquin Evangelia, who realised a massive €35,000 at the Cavan Elite Foal Sale last week. The maternal family also features the London Olympic hero Bubalu (1.60m), Ferrari VDL (1.55m) and numerous others.

Lot 80 Crannaghmore Candy Cane, reg b f f by Sligo Candy Boy out of Currantarmusid Black Tie (Silvano). A possible standout for the showmen, this eye-catching filly was placed third in the Dot Brown All Ireland filly foal final this year, while her dam won the four-year-old ridden hunter in the RDS.

Lot 105 Dourough Smart Act, reg b f f by Creevagh Ferro out of Tight Act (Hold Up Premier). Another from a news-making family, the dam is a half-sister to the highly rated Dourough Ferro Class Act (Sarah Ennis), recently selected to represent Ireland at the world young horse event championships at Le Lion D’Angers next month. The second dam is Ganly Lady, a grade A showjumping mare, ridden by Joan Greene.

Premier Selection

Lot 43 JVK No Fear, reg b c f by Imnotafraid Fortuna out of Grangeview Brigade (Silvano). Featuring a dual-purpose pedigree, this well-bred colt is a sibling to the up-and-coming Grangeview Cruise (1.40m), ridden by Liam O’Meara, while the dam is a sister to the America-based event horse Totally Awesome Bosco (CNC3*).

Lot 46 Unnamed, b f f by Grandorado Tn out of Grand Dame E (Darco). Smartly bred by the popular Grandorado, this filly is a sibling to the French-based Elejandro d’Over (1.35m). The dam competed to 1.30m level with Cathal McMunn, and is a sibling to the Lotta Shultz-partnered Nianca (1.50m) and Sianca (1.45m).

Lot 49 Unnamed, reg b c f by Sligo Candy Boy out of Donogue Cavalier Girl (Cavalier Royale). From an instantly recognisable family, this colt is a half-brother to Cameron Hanley’s jumper Good Lux Lucy (1.50m), Donogue Doctor George (1.40m) and several others. Going back a generation, the dam is a sibling to the Alan O’Regan-ridden duo Liberation (1.40m) and Redemption (1.30m).

Lot 51 Unnamed, reg br f f by Cascari out of Calendi (Ars Vivendi). With a top continental maternal line, the dam is a sibling to Caldera 22 (1.50m), ridden by Maren Reinbold in Canada. The third dam has bred Lord Marco (1.50m), Chablis 27 (1.45m) and from the direct family of Castella 53 (1.50m) and numerous others.

Lot 54 Reina MCN, reg b f f by Jorlan out of Utopia (Andiamo). Featuring a pedigree full of winners, this filly is a half-sister to Hilbert Z (1.45m) and to Queen Z, who has bred the America-based Berdien (1.50m), currently ridden by Molly Ashe-Cawley. Also based in the States is Diablo (1.55m) who is a sister to the dam, as is the French-ridden Virginia (1.55m).

Lot 58 Unnamed, b f f by Vivant Van de Heffinck out of Essenar Double Dutch (Luidam). This filly hails from a small but stout pedigree which features the Jordan Coyle-ridden Essanar Crixus (1.60m) as a full brother to the dam. Another sibling is the British-based event horse A Touch Too Much CCI4*), ridden by Caroline Clarke.

Lot 59 Ard Harrissa, reg b f f by Ganesh Hero Z out of Walenka (Calvados). The dam of this filly is a full sister to the top mare Vancouver (1.50m) who in turn was the dam of Freya (1.50m) and to Huntelaar (1.40m). Other siblings to the dam include Revelin (1.45m), Zoeara (1.40m) and Aphrodite (1.40m).

Lot 63 Fuerty Isadora, reg b f f by KMS Rooney out of Tynan Lily (Parco). Dam is a full sister to the James Hogg-ridden Tynan Orchid (1.35m) as well as half-sibling to Consul Royale (1.45m) and to Icost A Lot (1.35m).

Lot 67 Unnamed, b f f by Colandro out of LSF La Bella Creciente (Mermus R). Another pedigree full of blacktype, this filly features Cian O’Connor’s great RDS Nations Cup-winning mare Irish Independent Arabella (1.60m) as the second dam. She, is turn is a sibling to Grace 369 (1.60m) and Anna 176 (1.40m) and from the family of Ludwig 132 (1.55m).

Lot 72 Unnamed, reg b c f by Corporal VDL out of Border Line (Beach Ball). Combining two great pedigrees, the second dam Inline is a full sister to Cruise Line (1.60m) and Point Blank (1.50m), both ridden by Harry Marshall. The latter was also the dam of the America-based Revelation (1.40m) while others in the family include the four-star event horse Loughnehoe Legend and a little more distantly Hallowberrty Cruz (1.60m).

Lot 73 Stracomer Gillaroo, reg ch ch c by Tangelo Van de Zuuthoeve out of La Mona (Locarno). Hailing from a well-known dam line, this colt is out of the Joe Whitaker-ridden campaigner La Mona (1.40m). Whitaker also rode the second dam, Desdemona (1.50m). Other siblings to the second dam include Donatella (1.40m) who was the dam of the Shane Breen-ridden Undicci (1.60m).

Irish Draughts

Foals

Lot 121 Unnamed, reg gr f f by Dunsandle Diamond out of Lady Hattie (Agherlow). A filly with either performance or broodmare potential, she is out of the prolific show mare Lady Hattie, who won her class at Balmoral and was placed reserve at the RDS.

Lot 139 Stone Park Ard Ri, reg gr c f by Carraig Stud Jack out of Stonepark Queen (Young Carrabawn). A show winner at both Glandoran and North Tipperary shows this season, this colt is a smart individual. Both his sire and dam are class 1 achievers, while the dam was a national show winner on two occasions (small mare class) as was the second dam Kings Sister who went on to win the Supreme National championship in 2007. This foal is thought to have great stallion potential.

Yearlings

Lot 170 Dungar Close Diamond, reg 1yo gr f by Carrick Rock Close Shave out of Corcullen Classic Diamond (Rockrimmon Silver Diamond). This filly was shown twice this year winning at the National Show in Punchestown and at Roscommon show where she was crowned All Ireland yearling filly.

Two-Year-Olds

Lot 177 Ballyfolan Boy, reg 2yo ro c by Offaly Clover out of Tommys Treasure (Diamond Design). The All Ireland champion colt foal in 2019, this quality, big horse is thought likely to mature to 17hh.

Lot 179 Ellistown Florence, reg 2yo gr f by Carrickcottage Star out of Ellistown Grey Abbey (Fast Silver). Described as a ‘proper stamp of the traditional Irish Draught’, this filly is out of a former winner of the Ireland mare of the future championship, while her half-brother was a former all Ireland champion colt foal and her grand dam was all Ireland supreme ID champion.

Broodmares

Lot 192 Banavie Midnight Star, reg 11yo gr m by Clonakilty Hero out Cogan Dawn Star (Annaghdown Star). A multiple show winner, and a champion at the RDS as a foal, this mare is scanned in foal to Farmhill Highlander.

Lot 202 Castlegar Lass, reg 3yo gr f by Castlegar Fin Grove out of Castlegar Countess (Young Carrabawn). A standout lot largely because of the quality and the content of the photographs in the online catalogue, this athletic filly is showing a nice shape over a pole and is a likely competition prospect/broodmare.
