REMAINING with a tried and tested format, the fifth renewal of the Cavan Elite Foal sale will take place during the show jumping championships next Thursday evening. Places for this year’s catalogue of 25 pre-selected lots were competitive, and those successful stand out in terms of pedigrees as well as type.

As usual, imported bloodlines dominate both the dam and the sire’s pedigrees, and heading this year’s numerical list of covering stallions is the popular Kannan (KWPN). The former world number one ranked show jumping sire has four lots forward, while on two apiece are Cornet Obolensky and Diamant de Semilly. The highly commercial Balou du Rouet, Cobra 18, Emerald Van’t Ruytershof, Luidam and Tyson are also represented, as are Glasgow Vh Merlesnest and Sligo Candy Boy.

The catalogue itself has had another revamp this year, with the information about each lot spanning two pages, and accompanied by photographs of the foal, the sire and in some cases well known relations.
