THE proactive Mayo Roscommon Breeders’ Group has taken another leap forward with the development of an online sales platform to connect the international market with the breeders and producers of quality Irish horses and ponies.

Irish Horse Centre is an online sales platform for Irish breeders and producers, developed by the Belgium-based PWEB Solutions which has designed and hosted similar platforms for Studbook Zangersheide, KWPN and The Billy Stud among others.

Irish Horse Centre will host two upcoming auctions: the Breeders’ Select Foal is scheduled for October 10th, while the Producers Three- and Four-Year-Old Young Horse Auction will take place from September 13th-15th.

Glennamaddy Equestrian Centre will host a Selection Day next Sunday, August 16th for both upcoming sales events with more details online.

Mission

First established in 2009 by founding members Patrick Hester Jnr, Mark Hester, Noel Kilroy, the late Jarlath Cummins and recently John Murphy, the Mayo Roscommon Breeders’ Group aims to to create a breeders’ group in the west to exchange knowledge and gain from each others’ experience.

To date, they have hosed an annual performance foal show where foals are linear scored for their breeding and performance traits while being presented in a loose format alongside the mare. In recent years, the show has moved location to Roscommon Agricultural Show where the class has grown in popularity with a generous prize-fund co-funded by Horse Sport Ireland.

The group has also operated as an Equine Knowledge Transfer Group since 2016-2019 under the auspices of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, facilitated by Patrick Hester.
