ONE of the best known names in the Irish Sport Horse industry, breeder and producer Anne Marie O’Gorman of Lissava Stud, Co Tipperary, established a new business model in 2016, which has already proved a welcome addition to the breeding scene.

Recognising the changing dynamics of a rapidly evolving industry, where breeders were turning to more commercial stallions abroad, Anne Marie set up Heritage Bloodstock which concentrates on selling foals and embryos from some of Europe’s most successful show jumping families.

As a professional breeder, who has always campaigned horses on the circuit, Anne Marie understands what is asked of horses in competition and is, therefore, ideally placed to match your mares to the best possible sires to achieve maximum success.

There has already been huge interest in Heritage Bloodstock progeny, with O’Gorman the first person in Ireland to sell embryos online, which is now becoming widely popular.

Heritage Bloodstock also has talented youngstock, aged from yearlings to five-year-olds, and has some competition horses for sale, all in training with rider Damien Griffin of Lissegan Stables, Ballinasloe, whose level of professionalism ensures the progeny every chance of success going forward.

WONDER WHY

Wonder Why is the stud’s main foundation mare. She is by Cento and from Naline (Polydox x Pilot), who is the dam of five international performers at 1.50m and 1.60 level, including the famous jumper Simon, who won everything with Dutch ace Jereon Dubbeldam. Then top American rider Beezie Madden took over the ride and he was world’s No. 1 showjumper in 2013. Wonder Why is also a half-sister to Vigaro 1.60m and Eurohills Alkatraz.

Wonder Why’s progeny are very popular and she already bred the 1.50m showjumper LVS Heartache, campaigned by Cian O’Connor and Ross Mullholland.

LVS Vanrock (name changed to Vigilante) was sold to America as a four-year-old, going on to become the seven-year-old champion in the USA.

Currently Rio Olympian Greg Broderick has a five-year-old Arko III from Wonder Why, and Caledonia Stables purchased her 2016 colt by Quidam Junior.

Her stock are still young but are very talented jumpers.

Anne Marie has also retained two daughters for breeding, Lvs Pixie (Eurocommerce Pittsburg x Cento) and Heritage Anabel (Arko III x Cento), who is a full-sister to Arcadia LVS Z, whom Greg purchased for one of his clients.

Adding to her existing foundation mares carrying top lines, in 2016 Anne Marie sourced new quality mares, directly from Joris De Brabander of the hugely influential De Muze Stud. Born in 2013, both were unbroken fillies from superb lines.

NESPRESSO DE LA LINIERE

This three-year-old black filly by Diamant De Semilly is from one of the most influential dam lines in the world, as the third dam is the famous mare Fragrance Du Chalus, the foundation mare for De Muze Stud.

Fragrance Du Chalus bred over 20 1.50m and 1.60m showjumpers alone, including My Lord Carthago, Norton d’Eole and Bamako De Muze, among others.

Her second dam is Anais Anais De Muze, who is by Rubens Du Ri d’Asse, a son of Argentinus, who jumped 1.60m internationally herself, while her full-brother, Arc En Ciel De Muze, jumped at 1.60m internationally.

Her own dam, Eefke Van’T Zoggehof (by Golden Hawk, ridden by Shane Breen) bred Nespresso when she was three-year-old, and now seven years old, she is currently jumping at 1.40m level in France.

There are so many jumpers in this line it is hard to count and it is this very important foundation line which brought De Muze Stud to where it is now.

She bred one filly by Balou Du Rouet (2017), who was sold at just two weeks, such was the level of interest.

NOMARA DE MUZE

This is the second mare Anne Marie purchased from De Muze Stud, none other than an actual half-sister to the legendary Hickstead. She is by Vigo D’Arsouilles and from Jomara, (Ekstein x Ulft), the dam of Hickstead.

“Hickstead was by a sire called Hamlet, who, in my opinion, wasn’t as influential a breeding sire as Vigo D’Arsouilles, so this combination of bloodlines that Nomara De Muze has is a stronger bloodline than Hickstead himself.

“I sold an embryo in the Online Zangersheide Auction in February 2017 by Aganiex Du Seigneur to Germany, and I have two embryos taken so far from her this year, one by Emerald and one by Cicero Z. My plan is to compete her up the ranks whilst flushing embryos from her every year.”

CUTTING EDGE

This mare is by the famous sire Carthago Z and her dam is by Lux Z x Pilot. This mare competed at 1.50m level with Dutch rider Roelof Bril.

“Originally owned by the late Aileen Bryan, I was very lucky to acquire this mare. Due to her jumping career, her breeding career started late in life so her oldest progeny is only three years old, a very promising son of Armitage. I sold an embryo by Diamant De Semilly in the Zangersheide Online Auction in February 2017 to Belgium and have a smashing foal this year by Elvis Ter Putte.

“I have an embryo from Cornet Obolensky this year so far and will hopefully flush another from her soon,” said Anne Marie O’Gorman.
