Bestaline, a former French flat winner, should be good enough to make a winning reappearance. The Gordon Elliott-trained four-year-old had excuses when disappointing on her debut at Punchestown in October but shaped much better on her second start. Finishing third in a decent maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse, that has thrown up plenty of subsequent winners, the daughter of Martaline should be too classy for these opponents.

Mag Dillane, a mare that ran her best race to date when third in a bumper at this track, should be competitive if coming on from a recent run at Listowel. As a locally trained horse, she has most likely been aimed at this race.

Punchestown bumper winner Walk Away Harry should be good enough to make a winning debut over hurdles. Although the Charles Byrnes-trained gelding is likely to want further in time, he might get away with the minimum trip here given the likely ground conditions. The five-year-old has the potential to make up into a smart novice this season.

What’s Up Darling, a point-to-point winner, who easily landed a Tipperary bumper in May, is a formidable opponent. Gordon Elliott’s six-year-old has proven jumping experience which could prove crucial.

Millstream Lady should prove hard to beat here having easily landed a competitive handicap at Listowel last month. Despite receiving a subsequent 9lb rise, the Eric McNamara-trained mare may still be ahead of the assessor. Jumping and travelling well throughout, the five-year-old was value for more than the winning margin at the Harvest Festival.

Chainofconsequence, a course winner for previous connections last November, ran his best race since switching stables when runner-up at Galway recently. A reproduction of that latter run would certainly see the Ocovango gelding involved.

McNamara Series (Q.R.) Handicap Hurdle 3m

Positive Thinker has yet to win over hurdles from 10 attempts but should be able to put that right. Winner of both starts over fences, the six-year-old races from an 11lb lower mark in this discipline. Having reached the frame on over half of his runs over flights, including when second at Ballinrobe last month, the Michael McDonagh-trained gelding holds strong claims.

Another Nightmare was a shock 40/1 winner at Listowel but there appeared to be no fluke about that performance. The Shark Hanlon-trained mare was an easy winner of the day, with a subsequent 5lb rise appearing fair.

Ladbrokes Munster National Handicap Chase (Grade 3) 3m

Trainer Gordon Elliott is responsible for over half the field, so with stable jockey Jack Kennedy siding with Frontal Assault, the eight-year-old has to be respected. A well-backed favourite when only fifth on his reappearance in the Troytown Chase last season, Elliott has given the Gigginstown horse a prep run prior to this race. Although last of three on his comeback at Galway recently, that run should have left him spot on for this race.

Stablemate The Goffer has an edge in fitness over most of these having come back into training earlier. Following solid runs in both the Galway Plate and Kerry National, he should be reaching a peak.

Pats Choice should be difficult to beat as he can effectively race off the same mark as when winning at Galway earlier this month. Gordon Elliott’s son of Getaway was raised 5lb for that success but with Danny Gilligan taking over from Jack Kennedy, that weight rise is cancelled out. Although yet to win over this trip, the six-year-old wasn’t stopping up the stiff Galway hill.

Jody Ted hasn’t been seen since finishing runner-up in stronger company at the Punchestown Festival in April but Eoin Griffin’s seven-year-old has solid claims if fit enough to do himself justice on his reappearance.

5.25 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase 2m3f

Former Triumph Hurdle winner Quilixios is a class apart provided he is fit enough after a long absence. The Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding hasn’t been seen since finishing third in the 2022 Red Mills Hurdle. While the six-year-old will almost certainly need the run and should improve considerably for it, even at close to peak fitness he should prove too strong for these opponents.

Cool Survivor, a listed hurdle winner at Cork last year, is the main threat. Gordon Elliott’s representative is a smart horse in his own right but might just be better over a shade further.

If Quilixios fails to fire then he is best placed to take advantage but if the aforementioned horse is ready, he should have too much pace.
