MANY congratulations to Downpatrick native David Maxwell who is the British gentlemen jockeys National Hunt champion for the 2018/19 season and was presented with his trophy at Stratford last Friday week.

Injury unfortunately prevented him from riding in the hunters chase evening at the Warwickshire track but the London-based property investor had a superb season which saw him take this title with 18 wins to his credit.

For the past two years, David has been mentored by Co Tipperary-born jockey, and jockeys’ coach, David Crosse who was delighted with the rider’s success.

“I’ve been coaching and helping David for the past two years. In that time, he has improved no end and now rides to a very good standard.

“We set out this time last year for him to be champion amateur and it was a dream come true for him to be crowned champion.

“This coming season we have ambitions for him to retain his title and to win one of the two big Foxhunters – if not both.

“With David, I’m working with an absolute professional in his approach which makes my job very easy as we both are very ambitious.”
