THERE were a few reversals in between but the second day of the four-day Tramore Festival began and ended well for favourite backers and Ya Boy Ya got them off to a great start when winning at this meeting for the second year in succession in the EY Chase.

The 128-rated Colin Bowe inmate and his regular partner James Kenny, who has now won two points and four races on the track on the seven-year-old, were going easily when moving to the head of the field before two out.

There was momentary concern for supporters of the 11/10 favourite as he wasn’t all that fluent at the last fence which gave the chasing 80/1 chance Rippon Lodge a chance.

However, Ya Boy Ya righted himself and the Orphan Girl Syndicate-owned winner got home by a length and a quarter.

Coole result

As they do all year long Willie and Patrick Mullins sent punters home happy as Coole Og made a winning debut to justify 4/6 favouritism in the Copper Coast Geo Park INH Flat Race. There was a point inside the final half mile where the Lions Mouth Racing Club-owned mare looked to be struggling to get to grips with Kilbarry Lilac and Young Leya.

However, the daughter of Fame And Glory came with a determined charge over the last furlong to edge out Kilbarry Lilac by a neck.

“She very green throughout the race but Patrick got her into a position turning for home and she got a dream run up the inside. She will probably go straight over hurdles now,” reported the champion trainer.

Turbo surprises

There was a somewhat less predictable outcome to the Assembly Techniques Handicap Hurdle where Turbo sprang a 33/1 surprise for Jimmy Finn who trains the gelding for his niece Amanda.

The eight-year-old hadn’t been at his best since winning over fences at Kilbeggan 13 months ago but he returned in great shape from nearly four months off.

Kevin Sexton produced the strong-travelling Turbo to lead before two out and the eight-year-old knuckled down well from the last to repel Supreme Vinnie by a length and a quarter.

Bring The Bacon went off a 1/2 favourite following his win here the previous evening but he could only manage fourth.

Aunty goes one better

LAST year’s meeting was an informative pointer to events over the course of the evening and Aunty Audrey bettered her 2020 runner-up finish in the Tom Murphy Mercedes Handicap Hurdle to record the sixth success of her career.

Pat Flynn’s charge was fitted with blinkers for the first time in her 57 race career and she picked up well for Jack Foley to take control of this race between the last two flights before a two and a quarter lengths triumph over I Sea The Moon.

The Simon Girvan-owned mare was returned at 11/2 having been as big as 14/1 in the morning.

Dara improves

Another to improve on a runner-up effort in the corresponding race last year was Cluan Dara (11/1) in the 0-95 rated Griffin Auctioneers Handicap Chase over two miles, five-furlongs.

The Bit View Partnership-owned gelding was given a ride of some artistry by Bryan Cooper who produced him to lead at the last for a near two-length victory over Carnet De Stage. The four-time winner will be heading to Listowel according to trainer John Ryan who was making it 20 winners for the season.

Gee Whizz Syndicate are rewarded

THERE was a commanding effort on show from Reverse Polarity in the Noel Ryan Tree Surgeon Maiden Hurdle over two miles. The Mark Fahey-trained mare ran well in two outings at this track last year and again showed her liking for the venue with a dominant performance from the front under Richie Deegan.

The Gee Whizz Syndicate-owned winner had this race under control from some way out and finished eight lengths clear of Cornerkova.

“She picked up an injury last year but the owners gave her the time and they are getting rewarded now. They are all friends of mine from the Castledermot area,” stated Fahey.

Another mare to win well was Moonlit Wings (4/1) who finished with 11 lengths to spare in the MM Halley Solicitors Mares Maiden Hurdle.

Yvonne Latta trains the seven-year-old for her breeder and neighbour Thomas James and Moonlit Wings was confirming the promise she showed when fifth to Royal Illusion in a Leopardstown maiden back in the spring.

On this occasion James O’Sullivan had her showing in front from the second last and the pair cruised clear for an easy win over the favourite Branson Missouri, with Shean Glory in third place.
