EVENTS are likely to unfold pretty rapidly among the two-year-olds before long but some youngsters have thrown down significant markers already. With two Group 1s and other good juvenile contests coming up over Irish Champions Weekend, now seems a good time to take stock of where Irish-trained two-year-olds stand on the clock.

Seven of the top 10 are trained by Aidan O’Brien, with Ballydoyle looking a particularly good prospect for next year’s classics already.

Air Force Blue has not achieved a top-drawer time yet, but the signs from his Phoenix Stakes win is that he can rate well into the teens in a more truly-run race. The unbeaten Deauville looked more of a staying type when lowering the colours of Sanus Per Aquam at Leopardstown.

An interesting name on that list is Reckless Endeavour, who recorded comfortably the best timefigure by a juvenile in a maiden in Ireland this year at Naas.

Reckless Endeavour has not been seen since - reportedly due to sore shins - but the colt he beat, Herald The Dawn, has won the Futurity Stakes since and promises to be smart. Reckless Endeavour is being aimed at the Sales Race at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend and his rivals may have to watch out.
