Ballingarry Sunday

MIKEY Sheehy’s dominance of the smaller pony classes continued unimpeded at last Sunday’s Southern Region Meeting in Ballingarry, Co Limerick, where he took the three opening pony races before completing his four-timer by adding the featured two-mile Derby for good measure.

Another Tiger stretched his unbeaten run to 27 in the opening 12.2hh race for the Five County Syndicate. Hello Star then took the 13.2hh race for the Listowel based Curly Syndicate.

Sheehy made it three in the 14hh race as One Of The Girls saw off the challenge of the Darragh O’Keeffe-ridden Tell The Story. Later in the day he teamed up with the Curly Syndicate again to win the Ballingarry Derby on Tiocfaidh Ar La.

Danny Sheehy was also in fine form and he registered a double, starting with the first divide of the 15hh with Farmer Boyce. He made it two for the day in the maiden race where Top of The Morning made all to win for Co Cork owner Dick Foley. Rossa Ryan kept pace in the rider’s championship with a double of his own. He won the mile race on Never Say Never before going on to win the second divide of the 12 furlong race on Drama Queen for Dromahane owner Dylan O’Reilly.

15-year-old Bantry rider Libby Ducker registered her first win of the season when she partnered On The Edge to victory in the 15hh race. Libby jumped off in second before taking the lead from before half-way and seeing off the challenge of Rock Hopper, who showed a welcome return to form under Ben Coen.

Tralee rider Ross Sugrue got his second winner of the season when he teamed up with Whuse The Feek to win the 14.2hh race. Liam Gilligan has had a successful partnership with Castle Racing Syndicate and they combined to take the first divide of the 12 furlong race where Squeeze The Knees came out on top.
