THE traditional August 15th racing took place last Monday in Allihies, on the Beara Peninsula in west Cork and the Sheehys made the journey from Kilkenny a worthwhile one as Danny rode a treble and Mikey secured a brace.

On a track where front-runners have a distinct advantage, Danny jumped off in front on Farmer Boyce in the 15hh race and he shook off the persistent challenge of the Michael O’Connor-ridden Bounce to win.

The Ballyogan Road took the concluding maiden race over 12 furlongs when Danny struck for home four furlongs out to draw clear of the Joey Sheridan-ridden Timmy’s Gift, while in between, Danny employed front-running tactics on Top Of The Morning to win the 10-furlong race.

Mikey took the combined 13.2/14hh race on Raynuso, who made all the running, with the Daniel King-ridden Twinkle taking second spot, and he used similar tried and trusted tactics on Noel Brosnan’s The Low Road, who followed up on his second place in Dingle by taking the 14.2hh race.

LONG JOURNEY

While the Sheehys made a long journey from their Graignamanagh base, Conor Walsh made an even longer journey from Wexford for his one ride, but it was worth the effort as he claimed the opening 12.2hh race on the sprightly veteran Tail To Tail.

Tralee-based Ross Sugrue and his father Ray are in fine form, recorded a double and were only denied a treble in the 10-furlong by Top Of The Morning.

Forgive and Forget took the two-mile race and Monday Blues took 12-furlong race, both winning with a bit in hand after making most of the running.
