KILKENNY rider Joe Conlon continued his fine season as he took the leading rider award at a well-attended Geesala last Sunday with a treble.

Baile Mhic Andain showed his liking for the beach as he followed up on his recent Omey Beach win by taking the first divide of the mile race.

Conlon made most of the running on his father Michael’s horse, who is trained in MonasterevIn by Buddy Harrison, to win from the Danny Sheehy ridden Keeper Hill.

Conlon then took the second divide on another Monasterevin-based horse as Aideen’s Dream won for owner Ian Kelly. He got this winner home in a driving finish by the minimum margin from Your Achilles after sitting in midfield early.

Conlon completed his treble in the 12-furlong race as another Buddy Harrison charge, The Ferryman, won in impressive fashion following four successive runner-up finishes.

RYAN DOUBLE

Rossa Ryan was another rider in form and he secured another two winners. Choc Ice has been a good servant for the Finnerty family throughout the years and he won the 15hh race in Geesala for the third time, having won it last year under Ryan and in 2012 for Connor King.

Ryan sat in third place until asking for his effort a furlong out when they quickly put the result beyond doubt. He then went on to take the featured two-mile derby with Waking Ned for the Finnerty stable. Ryan sat last early before making his ground on the inside off the final bend.

He then had a few anxious moments as he found himself a little tight for space, but he got through before getting home by a neck.

Luke McAteer took the 10-furlong race, denying Conlon, on Last Chance Paddy, a four-timer. Luke was in a prominent position the whole way, and took up the running with four furlongs to travel for a stylish win.

Ben Coen gave a good display of horsemanship as he won the 14hh race, leading from two furlongs out despite the inconvenience of a saddle that slipped up the pony’s neck.

The 14.2hh race went to Oughterard, who seems quite comfortable on the beach as his other two wins were also achieved on the sand.

Danny Sheehy sat second until the furlong pole before stretching clear for a three length win.

Mikey Sheehy had earlier taken the 13.2hh race.

Hello Star maintained her 100% record, hitting the front inside the distance with the Michael McGuane ridden My Pie chasing them home.
