THE Grade 2 novice chase at Limerick will be an extra treat for viewers of RTE’s racing coverage on St Stephen’s Day. The two miles and three-furlong event has attracted a strong field of seven, headed by the J.P. McManus-owned Gilgamboa.

Ground conditions were described at declaration time as “soft to heavy, heavy in places” on the hurdles track and slightly better on the chase track.

It should stay dry in the area until St Stephen’s Day when “rain will develop along the west coast during the afternoon”.

RTE will show one live race from Limerick every day during their Christmas coverage from Leopardstown.

The racecourse has come up with a novel ticket offer for its opening day. An all-in price of €50 covers admission to the races and a ticket for that night’s Munster-Leinster rugby match in Thomond Park, plus a bus transfer between the two venues.

Day two of the Limerick meeting features a Most Stylish Lady competition and The Irish Field is among the race sponsors on the third day of the festival. Racegoers wearing a sporting jersey on day three will receive a €5 betting voucher. Lots of entertainment for children will be laid on during the final ‘family fun’ day of the meeting.
