THE Clipper Logistics Leger Legends Race down the straight mile went to Dale Gibson on Bob (8/1), who reeled in Janaab and Kelly Harrison to score by a neck with Michael Hills third.

Trainer Les Eyre went off to Spain for an extended spell, while Gibson has done plenty of media work since ending his long career as a stalwart of the northern weigh-rooms five years ago.

He has been instrumental in framing the conditions of this charity event in aid of the Northern Racing College and the Injured Jockeys Fund and was a thoroughly deserving winner.

“When everyone makes an effort to raise money for the common good, perhaps the industry should take note,” he said.

Bob is owned by Victor Chandler, who put the horse in a racing club for his staff. The four-year-old won three times in Spain during Eyre’s stint in the sun.

Kevin Ryan’s Salateen seemed to have quite a task in the seven-furlong nursery with 9st 7lb but he led all the way for Jamie Spencer and comfortably held runner-up Goring. It was the perfect start for favourite backers as he headed the market at 9/4.

A big chesnut by Dutch Art, the winner will be looked after with next year in mind but may take in the Dewhurst or the Racing Post Trophy before the season ends. Ryan has enjoyed a successful year with his juveniles and is certainly not finished yet.

Tom Dascombe cannot match Ryan’s good run at present but enjoyed a welcome boost when youngster Angelic Lord, despite hanging badly right, accounted for three rivals in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Conditions Stakes over six furlongs.

Although he had plenty in hand on official ratings there was work to do as all four joined battle in the closing stages. Angelic Lord (4/6 favourite) found enough for Richard Kingscote to pull clear of Markaz but did that rival no favours as he veered towards the stands’ rails. He was the best horse but should be treated with caution.

Saeed Bin Suroor won the Park Hill Hospital Conditions Stakes for the fourth time in nine years when 6/5 favourite Clon Brulee, driven clear at exactly the right moment by Ryan Moore, held Epsom Derby fifth Red Galileo by a neck with Bayrir third.

Very few trainers are in better form than Mick Channon and the West Ilsley man put up Graham Lee on 13/2 chance Lincoln, winner of the seven-furlong handicap before Expose sprang a 25/1 surprise in the closing sprint handicap.
