JOHN Gosden has entered both of his middle-distance champions, Enable and Cracksman, for the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh on May 27th.

First entries for the €300,000 Group 1 contest closed this week with 30 horses put forward.

Enable, the Arc heroine, could return to the scene of her Irish Oaks win last season, while Cracksman also has Curragh form, having finished a neck runner-up to Capri in the Irish Derby.

The complexion for this race should become clearer of the running of the Prix Ganay (April 29th) at Longchamp, which has been earmarked by John Gosden for Cracksman and also by Aidan O’Brien for one of his entries, Rhododendron, who was entered though not declared for tomorrow’s Group 3 Park Express Stakes at Naas.

O’Brien is responsible for a third of the Tattersalls entry. Capri, Cliffs Of Moher, Idaho and Lancaster Bomber are among his entries with the last-mentioned pair set to begin their seasons in Dubai next Saturday.

Four of the previous five renewals of the Tattersalls Gold Cup have gone to British-trained horses and there are 13 British entries in all. They include Martyn Meade’s Eminent, Saeed Bin Suroor’s Benbatl and Sir Michael Stoute’s Poet’s Word.
