MICHAEL Bell’s Pretty Pollyanna finished only a fair fifth in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot but had no trouble in reversing the form with three of her rivals from that day when routing the opposition in the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes over six furlongs.

Making her move towards the outside for Silvestre de Sousa, Pretty Pollyanna (20/1) was going clear when Angel’s Hideaway, ridden by Frankie Dettori, veered sharply right and seriously impeded the hitherto unbeaten Main Edition and also La Pelosa.

William Buick, on the latter, was lucky to stay in the plate.

UNALTERED

Perhaps surprisingly, the stewards allowed the placings to remain unaltered, clearly accepting Dettori’s explanation that everything had happened very suddenly, giving him little chance to react. Angel’s Hideaway stayed second with Chaleur third.

Pretty Pollyanna leapt to the head of the 1000 Guineas market, varying between 10/1 and 12/1, with this comprehensive seven-length victory.

By Oasis Dream out of Unex Mona Lisa, she is named after owner Bill Gredley’s daughter.

“I don’t know where that came from!” Bell admitted. “She’s obviously come on for Ascot and may well improve again, though I’m not sure she needs to.”
