WHILE they may not have purchased either of the top-priced lots over the two days of Part 1 of this week’s Goffs Land Rover Sale, northern agents still featured high up the list of leading purchasers.

On Tuesday, Ian Ferguson signed the €90,000 chit for Lot 171, Killeen Glebe’s three-year-old Mahler gelding, the second foal out of a winning King’s Theatre own-sister to Theatre Girl and a half-sister to Diamond Sal (by Bob Back), Ring The Boss (by Kahyasi), etc.

On Wednesday, the Cullybackey agent had to go to €120,000 to secure Lot 393, Moanmore Stables’ French-bred gelding In Love With You, a three-year-old son of Crillon and out of a Network half-sister to the Grade 1-placed hurdler Veinard.

The bay comes from the family of Quolibet and Palmier. He made two other purchases over the two days.

Top price

The Newtownabbey-based agency Kevin Ross Bloodstock bought three horses at the sale, giving their top price of €95,000 on Wednesday for Lot 386, Doctor Glide.

Another French-bred gelding, this Doctor Dino three-year-old is out of the Group 3-placed, three-time-winning Traditionally mare Cavaliere, the dam of one winner to-date and of the listed-placed hurdler, Nombe (by King’s Best). She is a half-sister of the top-class hurdler and chaser Captain Conan (by Kingsalsa).

Among others who signed for lots were Patrick Turley, Brian Smyth, Keith Watson, Harold Kirk, Crawford Bros, Brian Hamilton, Warren Ewing, Templeburn Racing and Steven Crawford.

The Crawfords purchased three lots at Thursday’s Land Rover Sale Part 2, parting with €32,000 for Lot 567, a Ballincurrig House Stud-consigned three-year-old gelding by Leading Light.

Northern success in Britain and Ireland

PATSY Cosgrave has enjoyed a recent fine spell in the saddle, the Co Down-born jockey partnering five winners in England between last Friday week and Wednesday just gone including two at Kempton on Wednesday.

Co Donegal native Dylan Browne McMonagle rode three winners between Friday and Saturday, his double at Listowel following on from a win in the BoyleSports-sponsored five-furlong handicap on the Friday at Down Royal.

Templepatrick’s Sam Ewing was another to return to the winner’s enclosure at Down Royal after his hard-fought victory in the five-furlong apprentice handicap which was also sponsored by BoyleSports.

There was a double at Listowel also for Co Donegal’s Oisin Orr but his came at the Co Kerry track on Sunday when Luke McAteer too was among the winning riders.

The previous Thursday, Orr was on the mark at Leopardstown and he was also struck at Gowran on Monday.

Over jumps, Brian Hughes partnered his 19th winner of the new British season when scoring at Southwell on Tuesday.

Quingenti performs well in Millstreet

International

AWAY from the racing and point-to-point scene, there were a couple of noteworthy results for northern-bred, -owned and -ridden thoroughbreds over last weekend.

The unraced September Storm gelding Quingenti, who was bred by John Kidd out of the Montekin mare Iveagh Country, finished sixth in the Horse Sport Ireland CCI3*-L at the Millstreet International Horse Trials.

The 11-year-old is ridden by Sweet Wall Eventing’s stable jockey Lucca Stubington for her mother Georgia.

At the Dressage in the City Festival in Dublin, the Michael Boyd-owned and ridden Getadate was reserve champion at Medium level for Category 3 riders (winning Monday’s second round) and finished third in the Advanced Medium championship.

The eight-year-old Getaway gelding, who ran twice in point-to-points in the spring of 2018, was bred by Peter Mackin out of the Daylami mare Shanaya.

The three-day Festival at the National Horse Sport Arena was sponsored by the Warrenpoint firm Botanica International whose Sean Cooney was present throughout Sunday and Monday.

Boyd too travelled down from Warrenpoint where he is based at the Narrow Water Stud & Equestrian Centre.
