THE unbeaten Irish-trained fillies Sacred Bridge and Hermana Estrella could take on another unbeaten filly in Sandrine next Thursday at York in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes.

Trained by Andrew Balding, Sandrine (by Bobby’s Kitten) has won both the Group 3 Albany Stakes and the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, and therefore carries a 3lb penalty at York.

Sacred Bridge, trained by Ger Lyons for Juddmonte, escapes a penalty despite having won a €300,000 auction race at Naas earlier this month. The daughter of Bated Breath had earlier won at listed level in Tipperary. September’s Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket – sponsored by Juddmonte and a race won by Lyons in the past – is likely to be her ultimate aim this season.

Hermana Estrella, a £42,000 yearling purchase, has not been seen since winning a Group 3 at Naas on her first start at Naas in May. Her trainer Fozzy Stack recently reported the filly has not had any setbacks since then but needed time as she is a big individual.

Zain Claudette, a short-head winner of the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, is another likely runner at York, while Aidan O’Brien’s entries include recent Curragh maiden winner Concert Hall, a daughter of Dubawi and Oaks winner Was.

However, Sandrine is the likely favourite. Balding said: “She seems to be very versatile ground-wise. She is a very smart filly and is an absolute pleasure to train.

“I think her two group wins were equally as impressive as they were under very different conditions. It was nice to see her do it on the quick ground in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and prove she is not a one-trick pony.”

Sandrine has been ridden on all three of her starts to-date by David Probert, who had no less than eight winners at this week’s two-day Ffos Las fixture.
