SNOWFALL is a best-priced 4/7 favourite for next Thursday’s Darley Yorkshire Oaks.
An easy winner of the Oaks at Epsom and at the Curragh, Snowfall will face her elders for the first time at York, a track where she also won the Group 2 Musidora Stakes in the spring.
However, the opposition does not look too strong with older stars Tarnawa, Wonderful Tonight and Alpine Star all doubtful starters, as is her stable companion, Love.
In fact her main market rival is another three-year-old, Eshaada, trained by Roger Varian by Shadwell. The daughter of sprinter Muhaarar appeared to prove her ability to stay a mile and a half when finishing second in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.
“We’ve always had the Yorkshire Oaks in mind for her and she’s looked very much like a mile-and-a-half filly,” said Varian. “She ran extremely well in the Ribblesdale where she wasn’t ideally positioned off what was a slow enough pace.
“I think she looked the best filly in that race, she looked the best filly when she won her listed race and she could be coming here unbeaten if things had panned out differently for her.”
Ribblesdale winner Loving Dream, trained by John and Thady Gosden, is another likely starter next Thursday. Like Eshaada, the daughter of Gleneagles has only raced three times and is open to improvement.
