12.50 William Hill Challenge Series Irish EBF Beginners Chase

Off the mark over flights at the Galway Festival in August, the Willie Mullins-trained Caher Roes Den subsequently ran well when third at Listowel and already a point-to-point winner, can make a winning debut over fences.

Ian Donoghue’s lightly-raced hurdler, Pat’s Legacy, has to be respected, having won at Down Royal in March before disappointing on his only subsequent start at the Punchestown Festival.

Leading banks horse/hunter chaser Fountain House is an intriguing runner for Ian McCarthy. A multiple winner in point-to-points, the eight-year-old could prove well-handicapped off a mark of 125 here. Having run well fresh in the past, an absence since May isn’t an obvious cause for concern.

Twice successful over fences since joining Conor O’Dwyer, Luimneach also finished second over course in distance in between and holds leading claims for J.P. McManus.

SELECTION: FOUNTAIN HOUSE

A half-brother to a Grade 3 winner in France, Toll Road catches the eye here for Paul Nolan. Nolan is well adept at having one ready at the first time of asking and it could well be significant that the Kapgarde gelding makes his debut at this track.

With Gavin Cromwell having a decent line of form into these races, any market support for his representative Ten Gears should be noted.

2.35 William Hill Challenge Series Maiden Hurdle 2m 1f 20yd

Beaten by the narrowest of margins on his hurdling debut at Gowran Park earlier this month, Lirakali can make amends. Having also found just one too good on his sole bumper start, the Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding sets a decent standard in a race of this nature.

Philip Rothwell won this series last year, so his representatives are always worth a close look. Jessbers Wish, who finished fourth in a decent maiden hurdle at Limerick over Christmas, holds every chance on his reappearance. While his absence would normally be cause for concern, Rothwell is sure to have him well prepared.

Handicap Hurdle 2m 1f 20yd

A winner over fences at Cork in April, River Vale looks well-handicapped reverting to hurdles. Only 6lb higher than when landing a handicap hurdle at Naas last December, the Mick Winters-trained gelding can race off 7lb lower than his current chase mark.

Off the mark over hurdles on her latest start at Clonmel in May, Jumbos Jet has to be respected on her first start in handicap company.

Local trainer Willie Martin does well with a small string of horses and is sure to have had this meeting in mind for the lightly-raced five-year-old.

Square Necker should prove very hard to beat here if taking to jumping. The Emmet Mullins-trained gelding has an official rating of 97 on the flat and connections should be rewarded for their patience, having given the son of Zarak plenty of time to adapt to his new surroundings.

Runner-up to a smart sort on his bumper debut at Gowran in January, Huntin Boots again ran a solid race when fifth in a well contested bumper at Punchestown after. Sure to be well schooled ahead of his jumping debut, the Gordon Elliott-trained gelding rates the main threat.

SELECTION: SQUARE NECKER

4.10 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Hurdle 2m 4f 90yd

With an official rating of 114, the Gordon Elliott-trained Dunsy Rock looks the one to beat. A maiden hurdle winner at Fairyhouse in February, the Poet’s Word mare ran respectably when fifth in a listed race at Killarney on her next start. Despite finishing tailed off at Cartmel last time, her overall form suggests that she should be good enough here.

Having made all to score at Tramore earlier this month, the Tony Mullins-trained Baymount deserves respect. Given her positive racing style, a small field such as this should suit and if getting an easy lead in front, could prove hard to catch around this tight track.

SELECTION: DUNSY ROCK

Runner-up on her racecourse debut at Downpatrick in July, Payslip can go one better. Finding only a gambled-on winner too good on that occasion, Gavin Cromwell’s mare could be hard to peg back from the front here if first-time cheekpieces work the oracle.

Emmet Mullins’ debutant Morning Rose is closely related to three blacktype horses in France and should be well-prepared for this assignment. Given that a stablemate beat the selection last time, any market support ahead of this racecourse debut should be noted.

SELECTION: PAYSLIP

Next best: Morning Rose
