2.30 Tramore Amusement & Leisure Park Maiden Hurdle 2m

Santana Plessis may finally be able to get his head in front having filled the runner-up spot on his last three runs over hurdles. He has crucial experience which may prove vital in the closing stages of this contest. Dropping back to the minimum trip also looks a wise move as he may well try to make all. Dysart Diamond has more scope for improvement than the Elliott runner as she has only had the four career starts thus far. A bumper winner at Limerick last time out, she is sure to know her job at the first attempt.

SELECTION: SANTANA PLESSIS

Next best: Dysart Diamond

3.05 Frank Gillane Handicap Hurdle 2m

Lightsider is a speculative choice in a moderate affair. Padraig Roche’s four-year-old was a useful flat handicapper for Sheila Lavery and may have a competitive mark here. While there has to be a concern about his lack of experience, market support could be significant. Ilikehim has been running well under both codes since racing resumed. He is difficult to predict as he races like he needs a trip but his best runs have been over 2m. Perhaps a fast-run race where he can grind it out will suit his style.

SELECTION: LIGHTSIDER

3.40 Comeragh Veterinary Maiden Hurdle 2m 4f

Mr Lombardi ran really well over this trip at Cork on his reappearance when first-time blinkers were applied. The headgear was left off last time when he stepped up in trip at Sligo but he faded late on after making much of the running. Back to a more suitable distance with the blinkers back on, he can lead them all a merry dance from the front.

Ya Boy Ya appears to reserve his best for Downpatrick so there has to be a question mark around this much faster track. He has also been placed at Kilbeggan. Strictly at these weights he is entitled to be involved at the finish.

SELECTION: MR LOMBARDI

Next best: Ya Boy Ya

4.15 Heinz Pollmeier Memorial Handicap Chase 2m

Alice Johnston, who was just beaten over course and distance last month, looks to hold leading claims in a similar race. With a different combination of headgear/aids and her rider’s 7lb allowance all looks in place for the 19-race maiden to finally break her long losing streak. The less rain that falls the better.

Josephina, who had Sean O’Keefee on board when winning twice over hurdles last year, has to be of serious interest under that same pilot. Danny Mullins had gone close on the mare on a couple of occasions since but she may have just been a little high in the handicap.

SELECTION: ALICE JOHNSTON

4.45 Viking Triangle Waterford Mares Beginners Chase 2m 5f

Rapid Response has shown enough in two starts over fences to suggest she should be up to winning here. A useful handicap hurdler last season, the mare was brought down on her chasing debut but shaped much better when second at Roscommon last time out. That run was on a par with anything she did over flights so there has to be every chance she will go on to become a better chaser.

Boro Tai won her maiden hurdle at Wexford last July but has yet to match that form since switching to fences. With just the two runs behind her, it is too early to write her off as a chaser. We may well see the best of her once she obtains a mark but on her hurdles’ form she is one of the better mares in this field.

SELECTION: RAPID RESPONSE

Next best: Boro Tai

5.15 McCarthys Irish Bar Lexington Handicap Chase 2m 5f

Woodbrook Boy is difficult to oppose as he bids for a hat-trick over fences. A dual point-to-point winner in 2018/19, he was marking time over hurdles last year. Since switching to chasing we have seen huge improvement and he may not be finished yet. Hash Brown showed that he retains plenty of his old ability when staying on nicely at Killarney last time. Although now in the veteran stages of his career he has come back down the handicap so should be able to win a couple of more races before retirement.

SELECTION: WOODBROOK BOY

Next best: Hash Brown

Greenane Lady represents leading connections who have a good handle on the form of most of the opposition. Market support for the daughter of Shantou would be worth noting. Erins Benefit finished third on her racecourse debut at Limerick last time so is entitled to improve. However, she was well-beaten by a Willie Mullins-trained mare so the champion trainer will know exactly what he needs to beat the John Kiely runner.

SELECTION: GREENANE LADY

Next best: Erins Benefit
