THERE is plenty of talk about the 2014 Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome running in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes but it is trainer Wesley Ward who once again is the most likely American handler to have a royal winner next week.

Ward has saddled four Royal Ascot winners to-date – Strike The Tiger, Jealous Again, No Nay Never and Hootenanny. All four wins came in two-year-old races and we can expect Ward to be well represented in the juvenile contests this year. His team is particularly big this year and could reach double figures.

ACAPULCO: Two-year-old filly by Scat Daddy who finished third on her debut at Churchill Downs.

BACK AT THE RANCH: A $110,000 Keeneland purchase, this two-year-old filly by Artie Schiller broke her maiden on her second start at Belmont last month.

BIG MACHER: This five-year-old was a Grade 1 winner on polytrack in the USA and has only recently joined Ward. He goes for the Diamond Jubilee.

BRUISED ORANGE: A two-year-old filly by City Zip who looked very impressive on her winning debut at Keeneland in April.

FINNEGAN: As low as 5/1 for the Coventry Stakes, this Irish-foaled son of Unbridled’s Song is rumoured to be Ward’s best horse. He won his maiden at Pimlico on Preakness Stakes day.

HOOTENANNY: Winner of the Windsor Castle Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf last season, he will have a big say in the new Commonwealth Cup.

LAXFIELD ROAD: A daughter of Quality Road, she routed the field on her debut at Keeneland in April, winning by over 11 lengths.

LOVE THE KITTEN: One of two ‘Kittens’ owned by the Ramseys in the Ward team. This two-year-old filly has finished second on both her starts to-date.

LUCK OF THE KITTEN: Runner-up to Hootenanny in the Breeders’ Cup, he has a hard task taking on Gleneagles and Make Believe in the St James’s Palace Stakes.

RUBY NOTION: She won a claiming race on her debut and races in the Pathfork colours of Silverton Hill.

STORIED TALE: A daughter of Tale Of The Cat, she made a smooth winning debut at Aqueduct in April.

UNDRAFTED: This five-year-old finished fifth in the July Cup last year and will run in either the King’s Stand Stakes or the Golden Jubilee.
