This course sparked a revival in Desertmore House at the Festival in May, as he finished second to Busselton and he returned earlier this month to win at Dromahane. Off today’s weights, he has the upper hand on Busselton, who also has the benefit of two runs over hurdles to sharpen him up.

Completing the shortlist are Topham third The Goffer, who comes here off the back of a win, and Peter Maher’s intriguing recruit Gentleman De Reve. Vanillier tends to come to his best later in the season.

While plenty of these have shown glimmers of promise, be it under rules or between the flags, long layoffs and disappointing efforts muddy the waters. Grade 2 bumper winner Green Splendour, however, has no negatives, is bred to appreciate this step up in trip and is Paul Townend’s choice of the Willie Mullins pair.

£300,000 sales-topper and Grade 2-placed bumper horse He Can’t Dance was a well-beaten third on reappearance but is expected to put that behind him today

Market support will be informative regarding point-to-point winners Lyreen Og and Bally Free, as well as promising pointer Court Compliance and well-related newcomer Excessivebehaviour.

Bottom weight Kotkito Bello placed in a similar race here last month and the penalty he received is offset by Callum Hogan’s claim today. Successful in a beginners’ chase in the interim, he should handle soft ground judging by an earlier effort at Galway.

At the other end of the weights, there’s the J.P. McManus-owned pair of Joueur Masque and County Final. The former didn’t fire until he got summer ground, so despite Mark Walsh choosing him, preference is for Eric McNamara’s contender, who proved a class apart in his maiden hurdle at Navan.

Cappa Hill aims to complete a hat-trick but has yet to prove himself on ground softer than good to yielding.

This looks an ideal starting point for Fun Fun Fun before returning to the fences over which she won a listed and Grade 3 last season. She conquered the same level over hurdles and showed enough zip over this sort of trip, despite being better known for greater tests subsequently.

The race-fit Mozzies Sister should give her a good run for her money, with Declan Queally’s mare having placed in three graded hurdles against geldings last season. Feet Of A Dancer, who was third in this 12 months ago, is another likeable type worthy of a place on the shortlist.

Custom Taylor looks capable of overcoming the 9lb hike he received for winning in fine style on his seasonal return, which marked a third consecutive win for Declan Queally’s charge.

While Millstream Lady may have reached a career-high mark after winning a listed mares’ hurdle on good-to-yielding ground, she had smart form on softer ground as a novice, chasing home Bioluminescence in a Grade 3, suggesting there could be more to come from her as the season progresses.

After two placed efforts over fences, Timmy Tuesday returns to hurdling off the same mark and over the same trip that he finished second in a Grade 3 at Aintree in April. The going was good that day, but he has form on soft, and connections evidently see this as an appealing opportunity before returning to fences.

Westport Cove has earned prize money on all of his last eight starts, including when winning a Grade 3 last time out, but winter ground may put a stop to his fine run of form.

Grade 1-placed novice hurdler Fleur In The Park has made a bright start over fences, drawing eight lengths clear last time out at Wexford. Relieved Of Duties may have won his beginners’ chase by a much shorter margin, but his second-placed effort at Cheltenham last time out carries plenty of weight.

The winner is highly regarded and point-to-point graduate Relieved Of Duties finished clear of the well-backed Country Mile. There should be more to come from him today.

Treasure Memory shaped like a smart type when chasing home the well-regarded Eachtotheirown in a maiden hurdle last month, with the fourth horse having since placed in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham. That was his first start under rules, having previously finished second at Oldcastle, and he should strip fitter today. Derek O’Connor’s booking is another plus.

Market support should rank the chances of the other promising prospects in the field. No Risk At All four-year-old Speculateur, who won his point-to-point by nine lengths, has an attractive profile and while Drombane doesn’t have the flashiest pedigree, Wings Of Eagles has been something of a pleasant surprise so far, and Willie and Patrick Mullins are always a safe bet in bumpers.

€160,000 Derby Sale buy It’s Only A Game, by smart young sire Goliath Du Berlais, made a promising debut here in May and that experience should stand to him today.
