Given the manner in which he won over course and distance earlier in the week, Fountain House is taken to follow up. While he would have something to find with quite a few of these rivals over regulation fences, the Ian McCarthy-trained gelding has taken really well to this discipline and can add a second win at the festival.

Former Grade 1 winner Fakir d’Oudairies would be a class above these if anywhere near his best. Fourth at this track in February, the Enda Bolger-trained veteran ran a solid race when sixth in the Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham after. However, he needs to bounce back having finished tailed off at Wexford on his latest appearance.

Ulster National runner-up Uncle Pat can gain a first win over fences. A proven stayer, who had also finished second on his previous start over an extended trip at this track back in February, the Willie Mullins-trained gelding looks a leading contender. Given that his best form has come on a sound surface, he has scope for improvement now he has conditions in his favour.

Thyestes second Better Times Ahead was pulled up in the Irish National last time, but very few got competitive on the day. Robert Tyner’s gelding had earlier won over three miles and six furlongs at Fairyhouse, so he has no stamina concerns.

UK raider Montregard has the profile of a horse that has been laid out for this meeting. A winner of his most recent start at Ascot in February, the Tom Lacy-trained seven-year-old has been off the track since. With his best form coming on good ground, on a right-handed track, this is likely to have been the long-term plan for some time.

Iceberg Theory, who had looked a progressive horse prior to finishing fifth at Cheltenham, has every chance. Paul Nolan’s gelding was stepping up markedly in trip in the National Hunt Chase and didn’t appear to quite get home. Dropping back to three miles here is likely to see him in a much better light.

Arguably one of the unluckiest losers of the whole week at Cheltenham, Jump Allen can make amends. The Willie Mullins-trained gelding was repeatedly denied a clear run all the way up the straight in the Martin Pipe, before flashing home from a seemingly impossible position to reach the frame.

Pertemps Final fourth Letos probably did stay three miles at the festival, but is likely to be better suited to this trip. A winner of the Brown Lad at Naas over this distance earlier in the season, the Tony Mullins-trained gelding is a strong traveller who will appreciate the demands of a strongly-run race like this.

Newcomer Cotswold Blue can provide Willie Mullins with another bumper winner at this year’s festival. A well-related daughter of Authorized, the six-year-old has been brought along patiently and must clearly be showing the right signs at home. With her being the stable’s only representative and Patrick Mullins in the saddle, she looks the horse to beat.

Another mare, Found It, could prove to be the biggest threat. Runner-up on her point-to-point debut in January, the five-year-old went one better next time. Now with Gordon Elliott, she has the advantage of having previous experience.
