2:25 HAPPY MOTHERS DAY HURDLE 2M

An interesting race in which the two main protagonists are far from solid, but preference is given to the Gordon Elliott-trained Chatham House Rule. He was given a very enterprising ride when beating Petite Parisieene in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown and is almost certainly rated too high off 136, but he should be good enough to win this without running to that level. Of the newcomers to hurdling, the Edward O’Grady-trained My Matador catches the eye based on his solid form on the flat in France.

Selection: CHATHAM HOUSE RULES

Next Best: My Matador

2:55 KERRY GROUP EBF SHANNON SPRAY MARES NOVICE HURDLE (GRADE 3) 2M

The last two winners of this race were Katie T and Missunited and one that has the potential to be a smart performer is the Willie Mullins-trained Lyrical Theatre. The six-year-old won three bumpers and a maiden hurdle prior to finding only the very exciting Morning Run too good for her in Grade 3 company at Fairyhouse last time. She doesn’t face a rival of that class in this and should gain compensation. Of her rivals, she perhaps has the most to fear from the Jessica Harrington-trained Keppols Queen.

Selection: LYRICAL THEATRE

Next Best: Keppols Queen

Competitive fare and the Peter Fahey-trained Tiger Bay Lady is given the nod. The seven-year-old has been making steady progress and her second-place finish at Thurles last time suggests she is ready to win again. Conditions will suit and she will be tough to beat. The Ronnie O’Neill-trained Sydney Thompson has been running well in similar races and should acquit himself well again.

Selection: TIGER BAY LADY

Next Best: Sydney Thompson

4:00 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF DAWN RUN MARES NOVICE CHASE (GRADE 2) 2M 6F

Only one horse to focus on here and it is the Willie Mullins-trained Vroum Vroum Mag. The six-year-old has looked a high-class prospect in winning all three of her starts over fences and should continue her winning run without too much fuss in this contest. The one for the forecast is perhaps the Garrett Ahern-trained Our Katie.

Selection: VROUM VROUM MAG

Next Best: Our Katie

4:35 CHARLEVILLE CHEESE BEGINNERS’ CHASE 2M 1F

This has all the looks of a match between the John Ryan-trained Draycott Place and the Charles Byrnes-trained Lord Adare and preference is given to the former. He has strong claims based on his close fourth to Sizing Granite at Naas in January. Lord Adare was as good as the selection over hurdles, but ran an abysmal race at Gowran Park last time and has to bounce back in a big way.

Selection: DRAYCOTT PLACE

Next Best: Lord Adare

5:05 BEST OF LUCK TO KILMALLOCK GAA IN THE ALL IRELAND CLUB FINAL HANDICAP CHASE (0-109) 3M

The Robert Tyner-trained Its the Ice I Like has hit the crossbar more times than the back of the net this season, but this looks to be a good opportunity for him to double his tally over fences.

This course and distance should suit him well and he remains no less than 19lb lower over fences than hurdles. The one that makes the most appeal against him is the Jimmy Mangan-trained Winter Magic.

Selection: ITS THE ICE I LIKE

Next Best: Winter Magic

5:35 KEVIN FROST MEMORIAL (PRO/AM) FLAT RACE 2M 3F

A bumper that has been won by high-class sorts such as Western Leader and Mount Benbulben, this year’s renewal looks to be up to scratch and the pick is the Noel Meade-trained Ice Cold Soul. A full-brother to the aforementioned Western Leader and Outlander, he won a bumper at Belclare prior to making a winning racecourse debut in a bumper at Cork in October. While he is likely to prefer a less testing surface, he could well have the class to overcome that and make a winning return from a break in this.

An interesting alternative is the Patrick Kelly-trained Mall Dini, with the five-year-old having won both his starts in point-to-points.

Selection: ICE COLD SOUL

Next Best: Mall Dini
