Natural Woman has started her season with two good runs in defeat and looks the one to beat. She is dropping back in trip from a mile but near the 7f trip of this race on soft ground should enable her to cope with this shorter distance. On her comeback at Cork, she ran well to chase home the smart- looking Shahzeena (the two that finished immediately behind her that day have both won since) and she followed that with a second to Fluff at Navan. Countess Constance chased home Penny Pepper in a 6f Curragh maiden last month and could be a greater threat than Maronella.

He started his season with a creditable fifth to Ringside Humour over 7f at Gowran and No Way Jack, who has the benefit of an inside draw, gets the vote. The winner and the fourth from that Gowran race have both won since and No Way Jack showed enough in being beaten less than 2l at Gowran to indicate that a race like this is within his reach. Not A Bad Oul Day won a 7f handicap at Gowran last week and that 3½l victory over Tanneron earned him a 10lbs hike in the weights. His revised mark should not prevent him from playing a leading role.

Vasoni is a dual course winner who enjoys slow ground and she comes here off a good fourth to Mr Bounty over a near 6f at Navan last month. She has a good draw to aid her cause and with conditions in her favour she is preferred to Battleroftheboyne. The latter was beaten less than a 1l when third at Navan and comes here off a succession of creditable placed runs. Chillie Billie hasn’t been in the best of form lately but could just be dangerous from a low draw at a track like this. He is another to consider.

Selection: VASONI

Next Best: Battleroftheboyne

In two starts last season, Harold Peto showed a good deal of promise and he might be able to make a winning return. He followed a debut sixth in a 1m maiden at Navan in October with a victory over that same course and distance two weeks later – a race in which the subsequent group 3 winner Steip Amach was third. He should be comfortable over this distance this season and he is chosen ahead of Edelpour who started his season with a 2¼l win over subsequent maiden scorer King Of Aragon in a 1m 4f contest at Gowran.

Selection: HAROLD PETO

Cailini Alainn struggled in a listed race over this trip on her return to action last month but she is well worth another chance. She ended last season with two good handicap runs, finishing a 2¾l fourth in the Naas October Handicap before losing out by ½l to the quality dual purpose mare Katie T at Leopardstown the following week. A return to that level of form could see her to overcome the hat-trick chasing Papa’s Way. That one has notched up 1m 2f handicap wins at Cork and the Curragh and will have no trouble stepping up to this trip. However, he does have a career high rating of 88 to contend with.

After beginning her campaign with two placed runs in similar events to this, Acid could get her turn. She was beaten less than 1½l into third by Never Again over an extended mile at Cork a month ago and probably posted an improved effort when chasing home Curvy and Ringside Homour over this trip at Navan last time. Acid is chosen in preference to Ringside Presence who was making his handicap debut when beaten 1l by Pullman Brown over 1m 1f at Tipperary. Pullman Brown subsequently finished ½l behind Acid at Navan.

Novis Adventus is a solid option. The 82-rated colt showed good progress from his reappearance run to finish a ½l second to Radanpour in a 1m 1f maiden at Tipperary last month. He should cope with this longer trip and can confirm form with Xebec who was making his debut when finishing a 4l fourth in that same Tipperary race. Xebec has since been beaten at odds on at Cork when third to Castlelyons but the form of that race got a boost when the runner-up Cradle Mountain, won at Naas on Monday.

Selection: NOVIS ADVENTUS
