2.10 GET YOUR 2017 NAVAN MEMBERSHIP MAIDEN HURDLE 2M

Broken Soul comes here off a solid 10l second to the exciting Melon in a Leopardstown maiden and a similar effort should see him prevail. Previously the six-year-old defeated subsequent winner Oakley Hall in a Down Royal bumper and his other form over hurdles includes a good second to Anibale Fly over this course and distance last season.

He can see off Miss Mardan who is making just her third appearance in the last three years. The latter was having her first run since December 2015 when finishing second to Augustin in a Naas maiden last month and that effort showed that a maiden success was well within her reach.

2.40 FLYINGBOLT NOVICE CHASE (GRADE 3) 2M 1F

After starting off over fences with two victories, Identity Thief’s season has taken a turn for the worse with two non completions in Grade 1s at Leopardstown. Those last two runs temper enthusiasm for his chances but this seven-year-old remains a potentially high-class chaser. As a hurdler he wasn’t far off the best two-milers and the form of his Grade 2 win at Punchestown in November makes for good reading. He has the requisite class to deal with a 9lb penalty for that success.

The experienced Ball D’arc was 7½l behind the selection at Punchestown. Since then he has held his own in quality handicaps and he comes here off a 9l triumph in a valuable 2m contest at Fairyhouse last month. He may represent a bigger threat than Ballyoisin, although the latter is a horse of some promise and comes here off a smooth beginners’ chase success at Fairyhouse last month.

Selection: IDENTITY THIEF

3.10 LADBROKES IRELAND BOYNE HURDLE (GRADE 2) 2M 5F

Sutton Place made a striking return to action at Naas last month with a resounding 7½l victory over Supasundae in a 2m Grade 3. That was only his fourth run over hurdles and his first for 10 months and the manner in which he disposed of his rivals marked him as a potentially top-class prospect. He has to contend with a longer trip here but that isn’t a concern and, after just five runs, he still has substantial room for improvement.

Renneti is an interesting rival. He too is stepping up in trip but that shouldn’t be an issue for one who has been placed over 2m 2f on the flat. Last season the eight-year-old showed up well in several quality English handicap hurdles and his return to jumping at this track last month saw him finish an honourable 1¾l second to Jezki in a 2m conditions race. At the weights he doesn’t have much to find with Sutton Place. Supasundae and De Plotting Shed are the pick of the remainder.

Selection: SUTTON PLACE

3.40 MARTINSTOWN OPPORTUNITY HANDICAP HURDLE 2M 6F 70YDS

This could fall to Rightdownthemiddle whose first run for Gordon Elliott saw him finish an encouraging seventh in last month’s Leopardstown Chase. He was beaten less than 4l on that occasion and he finished out his race in pleasing fashion. The nine-year-old is 2lbs lower than when he last won over timber and this race represents a notable drop in class, albeit in a different discipline.

The hat-trick-chasing Nicole’s Milan is a formidable rival. He is a thorough stayer so he should relish the stamina demands posed by this track and he comes here off victories in 3m and 2m 4f handicap hurdles at Fairyhouse.

Those efforts have earned him a 14lbs rise in the ratings but he looks more than capable of keeping pace with his escalating mark. The four-year-old Soir De Chantenay is interesting on his second handicap start.

4.10 TEN UP NOVICE CHASE (GRADE 2) 3M

Acapella Bourgeois can upstage Anibale Fly. The first-named built on a couple of solid runs in defeat to win a 2m 4f beginner’s chase at this track last month. This race will demand a good deal more from him but he can definitely progress further over fences.

The switch to testing ground will suit him well, as will the step up to three miles and it is worth recalling that he made sustained progress with each run as a hurdler, ending last season as a dual Grade 2 winner.

The 148-rated Anibale Fly is the one to beat. The Drinmore Chase runner-up bounced back from a below par run at Kempton to edge out A Genie In Abottle in a well contested Grade 3 over this trip at Naas last month. Of the others, a decent showing from Jetstream Jack wouldn’t surprise as he showed up well for a long way in the Thyestes Chase last time.

Selection: ACAPELLA BOURGEOIS

4.40 P.S. SUPPLIES DOORS & FLOORS HANDICAP HURDLE (80-116) 2M

A speculative vote goes to Theturnofthesun. Admittedly he has run just once in the last 14 months and that outing saw him finish down the field in a flat handicap at the Curragh in September.

However, he did indicate on a couple of occasions last season that a handicap hurdle success was within his reach and his third to Whatsforuwontgobyu in a novice handicap at Leopardstown in December 2015 is a decent piece of form.

Holeinthewallbar should be involved. He won a Down Royal handicap chase on his penultimate start and he showed up well on his last handicap hurdle run when chasing home Moores Road at Limerick in December. The lightly-weighted Peculiar Genius is another to keep in mind, along with handicap newcomer Snugsborough Hall whose penultimate sixth to Bacardys in a Leopardstown maiden was an encouraging effort. The application of a hood could aid his cause.

Poli Roi is a fascinating recruit from the point-to-point field. He was sent off favourite for his debut at Rockfield in November and produced an impressive performance to win by 10l, after which he was purchased by his current connections.

The five-year-old looks a horse of considerable potential and he is chosen to defeat Impact Factor whose career began with a solid 10l third to West Coast Time in a bumper at Cork last month. Impact Factor appeals as being able to progress from that initial outing.

Selection: POLI ROI
