1:20 LYNN LODGE STUD IRISH EBF MAIDEN 5F
The Ger Lyons-trained Treasuring, running in the colours of Qatar Racing, can get off the mark at the second time of asking. The daughter of Havana Gold was no match for Royal Ascot contender Declarationofpeace at Dundalk but that was her debut run and she still managed to beat Summerseat Mist into third, which looks like good form considering Michael O’Callaghan’s filly had run to a decent level on her three previous starts.
Treasuring should improve for her second run and the same can be said for the Michael Halford-trained Yulong Warrior, who performed with credit on his debut behind Sioux Nation at Cork.
Selection: TREASURING
Next Best: Yulong Warrior
1:50 SUMMER LADIES DAY APPRENTICE HANDICAP 5F
Magic Bear has snuck into this 45-75 handicap with the rooftop rating and she could have too much class for her 22 other rivals. Edward Lynam’s filly is having her first run of the season but she ran well over this course and distance on her racecourse debut last season so there’s a fair chance she can show something close to her best. She won on her second run, a Dundalk maiden of which the runner-up has won since, and she has room to progress now.
Pat Martin’s Aspen Belle is 2lbs out of the handicap but that is negated by Danny Sheehy’s 4lb claim and she could run a big race after getting off the mark at Cork in April.
Selection: MAGIC BEAR
Next Best: Yulong Warrior
2:25 BARBECUE AND EVENING RACING JULY 14TH MAIDEN 1M5F
Steel Prince has shown a fair level on his only two starts and he can get off the mark for his trainer Patrick Prendergast in this three-year-old maiden. He finished third to Group 3 Gallinule Stakes winner Homesman and subsequent maiden winner Modern Approach on his debut at Limerick and then bumped into a potential Ballydoyle Royal Ascot contender in Wisconsin at Tipperary. He shapes like a stayer so today’s trip should hold no fears.
Haripour would not have to improve much to win this considering he finished just under six lengths behind Naughty Or Nice over this course and distance last month. A bold show is expected from Dermot Weld’s colt.
Selection: STEEL PRINCE
Next Best: Haripour
3:00 NAVANRACECOURSE.IE HANDICAP 1M 5F
A wide open handicap in which two three-year-olds, San Remo and Druids Cross, for Aidan and Joseph O’Brien, are interesting getting weight for age. San Remo is unexposed and ran well at Limerick on his previous run, where he finished second to Bay Hill, who ran well subsequently at the Curragh last weekend. A son of Frankel and half brother to French 2,000 Guineas winner Make Believe, San Remo was slow to come to hand last season but may well be on the upgrade now.
Derulo is another to note. He was well fancied to run well at the Curragh last weekend where he was likely pulled out on account of the soft ground. He’ll have his conditions here and remains a horse who could be well treated off a mark of 78, compared to his 132 rating over hurdles.
Selection: SAN REMO
Next Best: Derulo
3:35 ROYAL COUNTY HANDICAP 1M 2F
Preference is for Constant Comment who is bidding to win for a third weekend in a row for Jim Bolger. The daughter of Fastnet Rock got off the mark in a seven-furlong maiden at Naas and then followed that up with a win in what looked a very good fillies premier handicap at the Curragh last weekend. She is clearly on the upgrade and races here off just a 3lb higher mark.
Jessica Harrington’s Tilly’s Chilli is another improving filly who has won her last two races and she can put up a big performance. Wins at Limerick and Roscommon have moved her rating go up to 79 but she is lightly-raced and her rider Tom Madden takes off a useful 5lbs.
Selection: CONSTANT COMMENT
Next Best: Tilly’s Chilli
4:10 NAVAN MEMBERS HANDICAP 1M
A wide open three-year-old handicap in which a tentative vote is given to Jessica Harrington’s Pantsonfire. The daughter of Sir Percy ran three times last season and showed a decent if not spectacular level in maiden company.
She is into a handicap now on her first start of the season and may be able to show the benefit from her stable’s good run of form.
Butoolat is another to note on her handicap debut. Similarly to the selection, she is into a handicap after three fair maiden efforts and she may be able to improve at this level.
Selection: PANTSONFIRE
Next Best: Butoolat
4:40 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF RACE 1M
Gold Spinner could be the answer to what looks like a good conditions race. Ger Lyons’s horse had the form of his Cork maiden win significantly franked by the runner-up Born To Play’s excellent run to finish second to Homesman in the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh last Sunday.
Another of today’s rivals, Dermot Weld’s Muzbid, also franked the Cork form by winning next time out and may be able to get closer to Gold Spinner this time. The son of Lope De Vega was an impressive winner at Killarney on his previous run where he beat the useful Diarist.
Perle De La Mer and Elizabeth Browning are two fillies to consider as well. They are both joint top-rated in this field but the former was a little bit disappointing on her seasonal debut behind Bean Feasa and the latter is well exposed in comparison to her rivals here.
Selection: GOLD SPINNER
Next Best: Muzbid
