Moulin Labbe ran better than his finishing position suggests on his Irish debut, having raced keenly in a slowly-run race on his first start in four months.

He raced greenly when push came to shove, was hampered after the second last and looked to be tiring when producing a messy jump at the final flight.

The French import is expected to come on considerably from the effort, as Hygge did at Christmas, but today’s testing conditions are a concern for Gordon Elliott’s flat recruit, who is fitted with a first-time tongue strap.

The same headgear is employed for newcomer Ur My Fav, a half-sister to two useful horses, and worth a market check.

Heavy ground has seen the previously promising Crooked Path disappoint, while Annie’s Angel’s recent second on the going came at Hereford – connections presumably looking for an easier opportunity.

It is hard to believe that Galileo Dame remains a maiden over hurdles 12 months after going close in a Grade 1, but in her defence, she’s only run over flights three times since then.

Her penultimate start, when headed close home to finish second at Limerick, has aged well, with the winner beaten just half a length next time out in a Grade 3.

That said, it came over two and a half miles, and this season’s form may not be good enough to beat the progressive Royal Hillsborough.

Stuart Crawford’s mare looked the likely winner in a Grade 2 mares’ bumper when her young rider mistook the 50-yard marker for the winning post, and the six-year-old is bred to be better over obstacles.

The market will prove informative regarding the newcomers, most notably Baby Fish – a half-sister to Grade 1-winning hurdlers Lac Fontana and All Yours – and Pat Collins’ Shanliss Tricks, by the same sire as his stable star Champagne Kid.

Showurappreciation received a hefty hike for last month’s win over fences but Jonathan Sweeney’s charge remains unexposed over hurdles and therefore looks to be on a workable mark.

He’s also proven on this sort of ground, as is Chosen Diamond. He’s back to a similar mark to when he won over this trip last year and benefits from the 3lb claim of Philip Donovan, who recently enjoyed a double.

Course-and-distance winner Quest With Speed is another who handles testing conditions and while he has run well under this sort of mark in the past, he has to bounce back from a very poor effort last time out.

With the promising Royal Gladiator declared a non-runner on Friday afternoon, this looks the perfect race for San Hilario to get a deserved win.

Jack Kennedy’s mount has crept up the weights following fine efforts in defeat in handicaps, and he is perhaps better than he showed last time out at Punchestown, with his rider reporting he hung violently throughout.

He finished second in spite of it and presuming any issues have been ironed out since, is the clear choice today against rivals lacking the same experience.

His stablemate Nopresentliketime should come on from his seasonal return earlier this month, as will Willie Mullin’s representative Hens Tooth, who was pestered in the lead last time out.

That was his second run following a long absence and his early wins in a point-to-point and bumper suggest he has more to offer.

The progressive Jacob’s Ladder is an obvious choice following his commanding win at the Dublin Racing Festival, but his appeal is reflected in his short price, so it may be worth taking a chance on Lovely Hurling.

The Walk In The Park half-brother to last week’s listed winner Goraibhmaithagat emerged as a smart prospect when winning his maiden hurdle 12 months ago but has had the misfortune of coming up against Final Demand, Kopek Des Bordes and Kargese and his next three starts.

It’s difficult to know how good he is, given the margins he was beaten each time, but they were all far superior rivals to what he faces here and he is expected to improve again on his third start over fences.

Port Joulain is another making his third start over fences and features high in the reckoning.

Last year’s race was won by 50/1 shot Senecio, but with just four entered this time, there’s no chance of a shock result.

Found A Fifty is closely matched with Saint Sam on last year’s form, the pair separated by three parts of a length in a Grade 2 over this trip 10 months ago. The former, who won the race, has been his consistent self this season, notching another two Grade 2 chases and was pipped for second last time out in a Grade 1, beaten a head by Marine Nationale, but well beaten by Majborough.

Saint Sam, in contrast, has only run once since, pulling up in the Peterborough Chase. He was entitled to tire on seasonal debut, but more concerning was his poor jumping up to that point. He’s had plenty of time since to iron out any issues, and granted he is back to himself, is expected to claim runner-up honours.

Better Days Ahead ran a fine race on his stable debut, but the talented and likeable chaser would be seen to better effect over further than this.

Savante comes here off the back of a career-best over hurdles, and while she hasn’t shown the same form over fences, she’s only been tried twice and has been given a reasonable mark.

It is, however, surprising to see the cheekpieces she wore at Leopardstown come off today, while they’re being fitted on Sophia Rose for the first time. They could be what gets her off the mark over fences following four decent efforts, most recently fading later over two furlongs further. It will be interesting to see how Getaways Charm fares on chase debut, having been given a low mark, presumably due to disappointing over hurdles this season.

It’s worth nothing though that she was sent off second favourite for a point-to-point on debut, so you’d imagine she has schooled well over fences in the past.
