This doesn’t look the deepest of maidens at first glance and it could represent a good opportunity for Roeillaun to get off the mark at the fifth attempt for Noel Meade. This Earthlight filly has made notable progress in her last two starts at the Curragh and Naas behind rivals who looked a bit better than the opposition she faces here. If she can put her experience to good use under Colin Keane, she’ll be in the firing line at the very least.

The biggest threats may come from the unknown profiles of the unraced horses. Marcescence cost just €8,500 as a yearling but should be sharp, being by Bungle Inthejungle, and has a mix of speed and stamina on her dam’s side. Essence Of Time didn’t run badly on her Leopardstown debut for Andy Oliver and stayed on over seven furlongs to be second at Down Royal last night. She’s certainly interesting if turning out quickly again.

2.00 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Nursery Handicap 6f

Despite a 12lb hike for readily landing a course-and-distance nursery last time, Supreme Lord is a colt with a bright profile and could be able to cash in again for Robson de Aguiar. Having faced some smart sorts in maidens and a Group 3 to begin his career, he proved a cut above when getting into a handicap last time and might still have more to offer in this grade.

La Tache won a Curragh maiden two starts ago and it’s possible that a third run in quite quick succession caught him out a little when last seen in July. If able to improve from that, now a fresher horse, he ought to be on the premises. I Ready, Lady Patrona and Howlin Wolf are each entitled to a fair deal of respect too.

Willie McCreery recorded one of the best months of his training career when saddling eight winners in August (also his highest strike rate for a summer month in nearly a decade) and he has continued to shovel on the coal with another double at this track on Wednesday. With the yard in such red-hot form, it’s certainly not impossible for recent impressive Naas winner Steel Magnolia to follow up again under Billy Lee - even with a 10lb higher mark now (most horses also dropped in the handicap since then). For a sprint handicapper in this grade, she’s notably consistent.

Irish Rumour is a hard horse to catch right from a win perspective (1-34 record) but she’s certainly capable in this basement grade and fired a bit of a warning shot when third at the Curragh last time. Simmering Seas was just touched off on her latest start and her stable has been amongst the winners this week.

Erosandpsyche might be too tempting to ignore now switching back to handicap company with a quality 7lb claimer booked. He’s not the force of old, now at the age of eight, but he did show up very well to be second in a listed race at Cork only last weekend and his stable has also been coming into form after a quieter-than-usual first half of the campaign. He could show his class as he drops well in grade.

Namiid is a course-and-distance winner with an excellent third to her name from last time at the Curragh in an 18-runner affair. Given seven weeks off the track since then, if she’s sharp enough she could well be thereabouts with Ben Coen, who won on her here previously, back aboard (good run under 7lb claimer last time). Fellow three-year-old Amiata is 2lb higher than when winning by a head here nine days ago and is clearly in good heart, though he’ll need to progress again in better company now.

Thunderbear is a fascinating switcher to Stephen Thorne, who has been sharing a yard with the capabale six-year-old sprinter’s former trainer Jack Davison.

Elmakaya has been a little frustrating and connections are now refitting cheekpieces and applying a tongue-tie for the first time. In fairness, she has at least been consistent (form figures of 72343) and a mile around here has the potential to be an ideal fit for her. Dermot Weld has had a couple of winners in the last fortnight, but also three seconds in the past week, so his horses are very much knocking on the door.

Divine Legend edged closer to the target last month at Roscommon and, despite the handicapper having 5lb between her and the higher-rated selection, the margin is expected to play out closer than that here. My Shayla ran a cracker last time at Leopardstown but her wide draw in stall 16 isn’t ideal around here by any means.

Make The Tide is technically 4lb well in after winning here on Wednesday and has been handed a decent draw in stall six. With momentum and confidence on her side, and able to remain in this 0-60 grade for another start, she’s worth giving a tentative vote to for Willie McCreery and Billy Lee. The longer trip is a slight unknown for her.

There are a number of these with good recent form, however. Nephin Mountain won here nine days ago and doesn’t look badly treated off 2lb higher now, especially with 7lb claimer Terry Casey taking extra weight off compared to Wesley Joyce’s 3lb last time. His stablemate Cause I Like You, Albatala, Alto Sax and Neon Eyes all hold claims, but don’t rule out a big run from Adrian Murray’s Calamint, who hasn’t been far off winning one of these, has course form and looks better than a mark of 50.

If she can leave a disappointing run behind her over a trip that possibly stretched her last time, Miss Crinshawn is a player for Peter Fahey and Ben Coen. She caught the eye in a higher grade earlier this summer and certainly has the potential to collect in this 0-60 grade. Cheekpieces also go on for the first time.

Top-weight Nibras Rainbow is possibly paying the price for his consistency in terms of the handicap, but another solid third at the Curragh last time means he can’t be ruled out. Millhone has been threatening to collect and also gets first-time headgear in the shape of blinkers, but the draw in stall 22 hasn’t been kind. He Knows When has been off the track for an age but could be well in off his revised mark. The 784-day layoff means he’s probably best watched for now, but keep an eye in case there is market positivity. Cadreville and Connova have place claims of their own.

Most of the more interesting candidates are drawn quite wide here. A tentative nod goes to the Ger Lyons-trained newcomer Mississippi Shine, a Coolmore-bred gelding by Camelot. He went through the ring for €100,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to Thrice, who was promoted to first in the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes. That type of background gives him a chance of having the ability to be competitive in a maiden like this, albeit he is an unknown quantity.

Sakoku has been tried over further the last twice, including when second in a Leopardstown maiden two starts ago, and the experience of three career starts ought to have him sharpened for a stiff 10 furlongs around here. He has 7lb to find on official ratings, however, with the Dermot Weld-trained Handani, who has been placed on all three of her starts and is good enough to win a maiden. Her draw in stall 23 is off-putting, though. Galway Festival second Royal Bones now goes up in trip, while Camelot Queen has plenty of experience but remains vulnerable if there’s an improver in the line-up. Joseph O’Brien’s Gulf Beat, a newcomer by Ghaiyyath for owner-breeders Al Shira’aa Racing, is worth a market check, though also has a tough starting berth in stall 18.
