1.20 Kilberry Apprentice
Handicap 5f
Even if he needs to prove he’s as effective on grass, An Laochmor comes here in such excellent form that he gets the verdict to make it a hat-trick of wins for Danny Murphy. He has been doing his winning on the all-weather lately and is up 5lb for his most recent victory at Dundalk, but he did post some decent turf efforts last year in defeat for his former yard (0-13 on grass).
Ross O’Sullivan’s Arctic Steps is another with fine recent form on the all-weather and wouldn’t be winning out of turn. Asdana is down 2lb for her last start at Bellewstown and mightn’t be too far away from popping up in one of these. Step Back In Time likes it here, though the lack of a run since October isn’t ideal against others fit from Dundalk.
SELECTION: AN LAOCHMOR

1.55 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden 6f
A €250,000 foal, who went through the ring for 575,000gns in Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tribeca is an eye-catching debutant for Robson De Aguiar. The Blue Point colt is out of a maiden-winning, well-bred mare from Moyglare Stud.
Joseph O’Brien was on the mark with a two-year-old newcomer at the Curragh last weekend and his St Mark’s Basilica colt King Of Cloughan was a €110,000 yearling out of a smart sprinting mare in the US. Aidan O’Brien’s West Of Eden cost €500,000 out of Arqana last August and is by No Nay Never, while the sole filly in the line-up, Jessica Harrington’s Margot Mae, fetched 115,000gns and is a half to Royal Ascot runner-up/Australian Group 3 winner New Endeavour. Barrow Boy is a half to his connections’ Chesham Stakes scorer Snellen.
SELECTION: TRIBECA

Despite a lengthy absence, Charles Darwin is the obvious star potential in the line-up and sets a high bar for his rivals to match. Last year’s Norfolk Stakes winner hasn’t been seen since Royal Ascot but his rating of 110 tells you the type of quality he has, and he’s also won over course and distance.
If there is anything to catch him out, it will be rustiness after a 310-day lay-off and giving away weight to all rivals due to his Group 2 win. Perhaps Kindergarten will be the one to capitalise on that for Jessica Harrington, having won a maiden here on her only start last autumn. Silk Braid is similarly unexposed and Chicago Call has race fitness and experience in his favour.
However, Frescobaldi, bought for 100,000gns out of Ballydoyle last season, could be very interesting if taking to this reinvention as a sprinter for connections well capable of training sprinting strengths into their string.
SELECTION: CHARLES DARWIN
Next best: Frescobaldi
3.05 Bar 1 Betting Vintage Crop Stakes (Listed) 1m 6f
Scandinavia was forward enough to win a maiden at this track on his seasonal return last year and, albeit he’s in much stronger company now and is bound to be trained for the Gold Cup at Ascot, last year’s St Leger winner looks likely to make it five Vintage Crop wins in a row for Aidan O’Brien.
The likes of Order Of St George and Kyprios have made winning comebacks in this race for Ballydoyle in recent times, so they know well what is required.
Carmers, winner of the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot last year, has 4lb to find with Scandinavia. Layfayette and Emit have the advantage of a recent run at the Curragh but look a shade below the top form that the main two are capable of.
SELECTION: SCANDINAVIA

3.40 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Salsabil Stakes (Group 3) 1m 2f
This is often a race to produce quality fillies and Chasing Paradise - with the advantage of a commanding win at the Curragh behind her from three weeks ago - can prove she belongs at this level for Johnny Murtagh. She looks a strong stayer at the trip and could be better than we’ve seen so far.
Thundering On has yet to win her maiden but has been running with great credit in defeat, including when second in a Group 3 where today’s rival Ice Dancer finished third last October. Emmeleia created a really favourable impression when winning at Dundalk 24 days ago, beating stablemate Eretria, who has bolted up at Leopardstown since. Minerva has lots of experience to call on and is rated 102, but Ryan Moore prefers Ice Dancer, despite being rated 10lb lower.
SELECTION: CHASING PARADISE

Jessica Harrington’s string is clearly in a good place at present and Now Maybe might be one to ride that positive wave after a near miss when last seen at Dundalk in November. The main question mark is whether he’ll stay, but this €150,000 yearling hit the line well when winning his barrier trial over seven furlongs at Leopardstown last August, and he ran on strongly on his last appearance (beaten only a nose).
Huff’n’puff has the advantage of a recent run, finishing third here on heavy ground last month, and should be thereabouts with natural improvement. Latin America ran a lovely race on his debut at the Curragh last month. Judged on how he ran on from behind, he’ll be the biggest of dangers now.
SELECTION: NOW MAYBE
Next best: Latin America
4.50 Future Stars Raceday 16th May Handicap 1m 2f
Justenzia has been a good find for Denis Hogan and, after bumping into a well-handicapped and in-form rival in Matt Connor last time, she could be the one to beat now – despite shouldering top weight. Perhaps she’d prefer the ground a shade slower, but she’s got better recent form than most of these and might get away with it.
Gotta Catch’em All has been frustrating to follow, currently 0-22, but is capable of winning races like this when all falls right. Maeve Brennan looks a good candidate to improve on just her second handicap start, while Obscenity has the potential to improve for the application of a visor and getting back to a more galloping track than Bellewstown last time.
SELECTION: JUSTENZIA

Having failed to really progress as the ground turned softer towards the end of her season, drying conditions could suit Juniper Sling really well here -– and she’s less exposed than most now stepping up in trip in handicap company. She ran well in a maiden here last season and her half-sister Thunder Kiss was a big improver from three to four.
Trubshaw is bound to be staying on at the death if ready enough off a layoff here. Daboya lacks a recent run but mightn’t be done with off 71 on the level either. Celtic Druid comes here seeking a hat-trick after back-to-back all-weather wins, though a career-high mark makes life tougher. Earthsong’s comeback fourth here last month looked like a run she could build on to win one of these handicaps this season, and she’s got pretty low mileage. If the reserve Arcland gets in, he’ll be a threat to all.
SELECTION: JUNIPER SLING
